A quick survery for those who have never entered a homebrew comp

I wouldn't worry about the survey at the minute. Two of the questions are missing and all of the previous responses have been wiped since the forum software was updated. Hopefully it gets fixed.

Joe White Pilsner Vs Weyermann Pilsner

I imagine that there isn't a demand for home malting, sufficient for the big players to bother. There aren't that many home brewers let alone home brewers who want to home malt. Maybe suggest to Keg King that they should look into it, I can't imagine anyone else would take that on.

A quick survery for those who have never entered a homebrew comp

The logistical issues should be easy to sort out in theory, it's the whole style thing that is much harder to change. At Vicbrew we run a specialty category, so really you can always enter whatever you like, but it's a hard category to judge and I would imagine the people running smaller comps...

    Rocks Brewery for Sale.

Always a mediocre offering at best. A few good beers here and there, but their core range is nothing special. I think it might be a bit rich to (partly) blame the increase in competition, although I would rather drink the competitors beers so there you go.

A quick survery for those who have never entered a homebrew comp

In my mind at least the Inherent subjectivity in judging anything, mixed with the differing levels of experience that judges possess makes the need for some sort of style guidelines all the more important. Could you imagine the quality of the feedback you would get without them? I have...

A quick survery for those who have never entered a homebrew comp

I agree with the lack of standardisation between comps, they are all their own entities run by different people with different requirements. I also agree with trying to get opinions outside of the club scene, there is a large somewhat untapped (pardon the pun) segment whose opinions on comps and...

A quick survery for those who have never entered a homebrew comp

I think you have a point here, and I tried to touch on that with one of the options (perhaps if we get good numbers participating here we can out together a larger more comprehensive survey). I also agree though that I'm not sure how you have a comp without some sort of style guidelines. Food...

A quick survery for those who have never entered a homebrew comp

I wanted to have something like that as an option, but I could only put 10 options in. I think that is definitely a valid option (and I suffered from that myself).

Yes, I am aware of this. None of the other sub forums seemed an appropriate place to start this thread though. Do any mods have any suggestions to give this thread a little more exposure to the non comp people?

A quick survery for those who have never entered a homebrew comp

Hi All, The recent Beer Cartel homebrew survey revealed that 72% of respondents had never entered a comp before which when combined with some of the discussion around why that might be, got some of us in the Vicbrew committee at the latest meeting to wonder why this is the case and to how we can...

    Batch Sparge/Efficiency Analysis - Kai Troester's work

It's always nice to flex some brain muscle now and then, but when it comes to vessel sizing it just comes down to getting the biggest one you can afford. If I were ever to go back to a 3v style setup (not that I ever would, too much cleaning for my taste) I would use 100l pots for all 3 vessels...

FS- Melb: 98L Whirlpool Kettle, Pump, 4-ring Burner, False Bottom, Cam

Hi All, I have some gear for sale that has become surplus to requirements now that I use my Granfather exlusively now. Item #1: 98L Whirlpool Kettle I have a sandwich base, thick walled, 98L stainless steel kettle, this has an inbuilt thermometer, whirlool inlet and of course a tap down the...

Gravity post-mash vs gravity post boil not matching

This happened to me on my first GF brew. Low pre-boil reading ended up adding LDME. Post boil gravity was ended up being the predicted OG + the points for the LDME addition. My standard bitter ended up an ESB! Still tastes great though.

    Keg Leak Troubleshooting

That is partially true, if you set your reg to 30psi and turn the bottle off if you have no leak it will stay at 30psi. Also the high pressure gauge will fluctuate with room temp. However, If you have a very slow leak the high pressure gauge will drop off first, followed by the low pressure...

    Survey results

You should attend one if you can and volunteer to steward rather than judge (unless you want to judge of course). From an educational point of view you want get a better chance to taste a wide range of homebrew from crap to perfection and everything in between from all styles. It's especially a...
