    KK Grand Deluxe Compressor Cycling

My brother bought one a while back. It did the exact same thing. It worked fine but was very loud for use inside the house so he got rid of it. Sorry it's just how they are.

    beer canning melbourne

I am specifically referring to U-Brew it style establishments. The one's I have been to have essentially zero sanitation so everything you take home with you is infected to a degree. If it is kept cold and you drink it fast it's not much of a problem, but anything that hangs around especially at...

    Huge batch pitfalls?

The grain bag is going to weigh a ton. Also you may want to employ some sort of sparge for a batch that big. You will want to get that hoist up too! I assume you are gong to high gravity brew and dilute post boil? If so assume a lower efficiency.

A quick survery for those who have never entered a homebrew comp

I'm going to assume not. I've contacted admin about it but have not heard back. Polls were mentioned in the 'complain' thread and it looks like too much work to fix. Such a shame to lose all of the poll data. On the back of this I am going to put together a slightly more detailed survey which...

    Hop Stabilisation

So when you do a closed transfer, how do you know when your keg is full? Do you weigh it or just go off your fermenter volume markings? I've been thinking of going this way myself. Aside from your pressure ferments have you noticed an improvement due to closed transfers?

    Competition advice for newbies

You are spot on about maxing out every aspect of the beer. Do NOT expect to win with subtlety and finesse even if well within the style parameters. You need to nuke the **** out of the judges face for them to acknowledge the presence of a certain flavour or aroma, regardless of what the style...

    Competition advice for newbies

Good advice, you could also brew a beer to style specifically for the comp and take the guess work or if it.

Back sweetening Cider with Apple Juice, how much in keg?

I fill a 19l keg up to 17l with my dry cider and then dump in 2L of Granny Smith preshafruit juice. I also calculate the ABV of the cider to equal 5% once the 2l of juice has been added.

    Water Aeration

That is a matter of opinion, there are plenty of people doing everything they can to minimise oxygen pickup in the brew house including adding metabisulfite to their water. Look up then LODO threds. At the very least it's an interesting read. Personally I would try to avoid aerating the water as...

    IS THIS INFECTED

It's a bit hard to tell, but it looks like there could be some mould in there (the white/green looking stuff), if so you need to dump it.

Starting a new 1BBL brewhouse with intention to scale & distribute.

Does this course still run? The website doesn't seem to have been updated since last year. I take it back, looks like there was a course on the 3rd of June. Not all that helpful.

Jao The Ultimate Beginners Mead Recipe

I diluted mine with some carbonated water I have on tap down to about 5% ABV. It was quite nice at the lower strength and sweetness. The touch of carbonation didn't hurt either.

    Microscopic Views & Staining

1469 is a high floccultor, I would take a yeast sample and spin it on a stir plate in some fresh wort or try and agitate it somehow to break the clumps up a bit. Then have a look under the microscope again.

    Microscopic Views & Staining

You can do many wonderful things with ImageJ, the key to it I working out how. I went to a training course when I was a working at Melbourne Uni and it is very powerful, but awful at the same time.

    Microscopic Views & Staining

Download ImageJ or FIJI as it seems to be called now to manipulate the images and perform cell counts. The user interface is awful but it is quite a powerful tool.

What improvements to your process are you planning in order to brew be

This will probably be the single biggest impediment to brewing regularly, even worse if you have kids. Should this be the case you better make sure you have trimmed as much fat off the time it takes you to brew as possible!!

    High OG

The hydrometer is about as low tech as it comes. You need to work out how to use one if you want to brew beer, it's as simple as that. You can't get anymore fundamentally important bits of testing equipment than a hydrometer and thermometer. Maybe look at getting a new one (they aren't that...

Mild FG Question. Am I too high?

Agreed, I also like to slowly ramp up the fermentation temp in order to prevent these yeasts from dropping out early.

A quick survery for those who have never entered a homebrew comp

I'll wait a bit too and see if it can be fixed. If not we will unfortunately have to start from scratch as two of the questions are missing and I can't add any additional ones into the existing poll. Hopefully the threads can be merged as it was getting some interesting responses. It's a bit of...
