What's the purpose of the 1hr boil?

There is an old thread somewhere on here that links to a scientific paper reviewing exactly that. Sorry I couldn’t find it for you. MHB might know the one I am referring to?

    Low dissolved oxygen brewing techniques

Not really as an increase in temp results in an increase rate of staling. I think Charlie Bamforth has mentioned a 2-3x rate of staling in finished beer for every 10degC increase in beer temp.

    Low dissolved oxygen brewing techniques

I don’t disagree that it is interesting (I still read it) and I am in theory supportive of what they are trying to accomplish, they just don’t do a very good job. The main accomplishment of Brulosophy thus far is to demonstrate how crap the palate of the average person is, even when they have an...

    Low dissolved oxygen brewing techniques

I disagree with that, why use stats and invoke the magical p<0.05 if you are not trying to prove something on some level? It is a gross misuse of statistical methods in my opinion anyhow as the experiments themselves are usually poorly designed and/or implemented. The worst part about them is...

    Low dissolved oxygen brewing techniques

Once again I feel compelled to add that Brulosophy results generally mean nothing due to flawed experimental design (as I saw recently in a water chemistry experiment) or the fact that you could lay a turd in one of the cups used for the triangle test and the ‘tasting panel’ wouldn’t pick it up...

Just how DO you get that juicy IPA taste and aroma?

There are plenty around. I personally have never had one that I thought was an improvement on IPA (generally speaking).

    Lager recipe without lager yeast

Please take all Bruslosophy results with the proverbial grain of salt. I suspect you could drop a literal turd into one of their triangle tests and the ‘tasting panel’ still wouldn’t achieve statistical significance.

    Blowoff Suck Back

Any update on how cold crashing went with this setup? How much did the bag inflate? I admire the simplicity of this setup very much.

Has mash ph been an improvement for you?

This stuff is garbage, don’t let it anywhere near your beer. There are plenty of threads about it if you search the forum.

Assistance needed with using Motueka and Sorachi Ace Hops for the first time

I got a ton a dill during the ferment but it all disappeared by the time the beer was ready to drink. It ended up a lemon coconut kolsch. Was very tasty.

Assistance needed with using Motueka and Sorachi Ace Hops for the first time

It’s an interesting hop, I like to use it in a Kolsch like MP brewery. I can’t imagine it’s a hop that would play well with others though??

Assistance needed with using Motueka and Sorachi Ace Hops for the first time

The Sorachi Ace is going to give you quite a bit of coconut in addition to the lemon note. If that’s not what you want then you might want to go with something else.

    Too much 20min hops

A massive dry hop will probably not help. Depending on what hop you use and how you do it, the situation could become worse as dry hopping can add some astringency. I would leave it, your beer will be fine. A calculated 50 IBU won't result in 50 IBU in the finished beer anyhow as some of that...

    NSW Container deposit scheme.

Putting the bins out once a week is annoying enough! It would **** me to tears having to collect up my recycling and cart it off to the nearest robot.....like I haven’t got anything better to do with my time [emoji849]

Peach Melomel (mead) and an Apple and Blackcurrant cyser

Don’t taint your efforts with chips, dominos are a far better option.

New 19L cornies: KK vs Mangrove Jack's ?

The new KK ones are excellent.

Yeah I don’t get it either. Is kerbside recycling not working?

There are still 400 odd left according to the IBA.

Pirate Life sells to AB InBev

I agree, it makes no sense to me to buy a brewery at the pointy end of the craft spectrum and then proceed to literally water down the product offering to reduce COGs. It makes more sense to keep the quality up and to drop the price, putting the squeeze on the independents that can't match price...

Pirate Life sells to AB InBev

I’ll also add (not directed at anyone here in particular) that these breweries that get bought out owe their customers/fan base/obsessives absolutely nothing. The transaction here is cash for beer. Just because you have bought beer from a particular brewery does not mean you have also bought a...
