    Guess the homebrew purchase

Kegger through and through, not a bottle tree. :P

    Guess the homebrew purchase

Top idea Dave, but no. 20L lager starter! that would be epic, but would leave no room for the wort in the fermenter. Goodbye Bronwyn available on Kindle yet? Cheers, D80

    Guess the homebrew purchase

Delivered today in a TALL box should be fully assembled. That is the first clue. It itself would have been privy to many tall tales Second clue. Guess away! Cheers, D80.

    Ebay Grain Kit?

It would for Alcohol, but will ferment out 100% and may thin the body of the beer too much. Add some LME or DME instead. Edit: I put your recipe into some brewing software for 23L, as it stands you are looking at about 3.8% (as written). If you add 500g of Dry Malt Extract and keep the sugar...

    Ebay Grain Kit?

Leave your brew water out overnight in pot the night before and the chlorine will sort itself out / or boil the water for 10 mins and cool to mash temp over time. That will take care of your chlorine. cheers, D80

    Lighting a spiral burner

Thanks Lads, I need to get it cranking to settle on a burner height from the kettle. Unfortunately the squids are sick so no brew day tonight but that gives me an extra week to make sure everything is mickey mouse. Hope not to appear on the news next week! Cheers, D80

    Lighting a spiral burner

Got my new medium pressure reg and gas hose hooked up now. I can't seem to get the burner to light correctly. Flames keep jumping back down the burner and out the air holes then the flame goes out. My knuckles have never been smoother! What gives? Shall I give it more gas pressure. I am erring...

Fermenting a couple of beers at once - getting the temp right

Same as above, strap to the one with most aggressive yeast. In my case normally the Nottingham fermenting one. If you seals are buggered in the fridge, swinging in the air will have the compressor kicking on and off too often. Cheers, D80

    My micro brewery dream

My folks live in Denmark, mum teaches in Albany. When I visit them next I will drop in for sure. If you are lucky I might even volunteer to be a brewb!tch for a day :P (It is on my short bucket list to experience a day in a brewery.) Good work on the setup, looks the goods so far! :D Cheers, D80

    Upgrading Birko Urn element.

I use one of these. Awesome piece of kit. I use it for heating 65L to strike temp for BIAB and in the boil with gas (saves gas). Very handy. Check Ebay, will get one cheaper than that. I paid about $100 even. Cheers, D80

    Gunk in Keg Posts

Ok here is an update. 24 hours in a very strong starsan solution (started at boiling - big slurp of starsan and 500mls water). 6 posts soaked, now 98% clear. No floaties in the solution so assuming they were sizzled up. Diluted the acid, and removed the posts. Quick once over with a spare tooth...

    Gas burner

As ducati said, buy bigger than you need first up, that way there is half a chance you only buy once! (same goes for when you are looking for pots, skip the 50 and straight for the 80 :P). In that case better get a spiral burner now so later you just need a new reg for big boils (when you get...

Brown malt always gives harsh flavour

Tried cold steeping them the night before and adding late to boil instead? I am just reading about this, keen to give it a go. Cheers, D80

    Gunk in Keg Posts

Hi, I have tried boiling water and Sodium Perc to remove the gunk inside keg posts I am servicing. 90% has been removed, is there anything i can do to get the rest? I am not sure of the substance that is in there, looks like it could be syrup from the soda days. Might be rust? Hard to say...
