Spoon, Paddle or Whisk for Mashing In?

I use a paint masher, from Dulux paint centre. It looks identical to the blue Masters one in the link. But it is red, so mashes harder. Cheers, D80

    Growing Hops

Sounds good to me. I am mobile, have party keg setup, though not sure that would fly at a local pub. Fan of the sample session idea. Even more a fan of it being within a few KMs of my house so I can walk home. Will have my first APA, my Xmas Ale and possibly a Aussie Pub Ale available by the...

How do you store your grain?

Brewing has to be the most space intensive hobby I have ever had. Dominates my 25sqm shed. Just enough room for a bait freezer and fishing rods left over! I store in metal cupboard in bag, or on shelf in 60l tubs in bag. 1 60l tub has all me spec malt in it and the bait freezer sorts out the...

    Lets talk roller mills

Credit card thickness here. BIAB, 75-84% depending on squeezing. Run through once with a drill. have not used Rye but have milled wheat. All grains together. Cheers, D80

First lager seems to have been a disaster - is it worth it?

The only lagers I have made I have mashed lower for a drier finish. 64 deg or thereabouts. 67 seems a good idea for a mid strength beer but could be sweet if a full strength grain bill. Or is 67 you Mash In temp (which will then drop a couple of deg?). Sounds like diacetyl or its nasty sibling...

    How to use pellet hops?

I let the pellets run free in the boil, then whirlpool at the end before no chilling. No point bagging them (for me) as I add more into the cube anyway, not bagged in there either. Cheers, D80

Has the forum jumped the shark?

I can't join it now, because everyone will know who I am. I will just have to assume someone else's identity and glean what i need..... Cheers, D80

Has the forum jumped the shark?

If anti-facebook could be personified. It would be me.... I did a computer forensics course, as a result of what i learned, the last thing i want to be doing is putting all my **** out there for all to grab a hold of. You would be amazed how much information ppl leak by joining FB and other...

    Which BIAB Starter Kit?

The larger volume argument is basically in regards to Output for Hours invested. If you have bags of free time and wish to invest it in this hobby, golden! If you have kids (two under 2 here) and your brewing time is rare as rocking horse ****, then 1 brew done over 4 hours once every other...

    The rule of 7

So I should be Lagering in the keg not in the fermenter in the fridge? Cheers, D80

    Which BIAB Starter Kit?

Sponge has it sussed. My experience 100%. Currently I have 2 20l cubes of wort from 10 days ago sitting in a large esky in the shade in the shed. When ready I can pitch one or both of these. 2 kegs getting gassed now. Will pitch them when I start on the kegs. In 4 to 5 week's when kegs are...
