    Help! Yeast Advice Quickly

I'd give the starter until tomrrow night before getting too upset, if you have put a small amount of yeast into a 1L starter its going to take some time. As long as you sanitise everything your brew should be good to sit in the fermenter until the starter fires up. If not then throw in the dry...

    Timothy Taylor Yeast?

Unless it gets rediculously expensive I would be interested in grabbing some of this. Always looking for a new strain and if its a specially imported one then why not indeed :)

    Wyeast's Best Ale

After that review I reckon I will be trying 1007 next :) current fav is 1968 however. If you like malt flavour then this one is a winner. Great in a ESB.

    60min Or 90min Mashes?

I was under the impression that tannin extraction increases with both wort pH and temperature. Fly spargers can run the risk of increasing the wort pH by oversparging more so than batch spargers I believe. In terms of it being ok to dump 15-20L on your grains for batch sparging I have no idea...

    Froth On Initial Pour

Rob I don't think this would be the problem, having the beer tap above the keg will give you a slightly higer pressure drop as you have to push the beer up the extra height. If you did overcarbonate your beer it can take some time to get the gas out. You will find you have to burp it a number...

    Wyeast 1056

Its not a renowned crawler? That said I have 26L of APA in a 30L fermenter and the Krausen has reached the top. Hoping it doesn't climb out as I don't fancy cleaning up the ferm freezer. A nice yeast in any event.

    Froth On Initial Pour

Yep lots of factors. 1) 2m of line may not be enough depending on what the ID of the line is. You basically want the pressure drop over the line to be almost equal to your pouring pressure so the beer comes out at a nice pace and not like a rocket. 2) Overcarbonated? How did you carbonate...

Ales Or Lagers?, Which Do You Prefer?

Of late I am enjoying lagers but don't have enough cool room space for ferments :(

    Mild/bitter - Batch Sparge Only?

Fly sparging should be fine. For a beer > 1.045 I just sparge to my required boil volume (27L) however with low grav beers like that I would keep an eye on the gravity of the runnings and stop when it hits 1.010 and top the kettle up with water as vlbaby says.

    100% Wheat Beer

Not yet Doc but I was just thinking yesterday that the all wheat porter or something like that would be a good one to revisit soon. I still have that same sack of wheat. Was thinking of Hop Burst JPA after the next brew, perhaps I will have a crack at a 100% wheat hop burst just for the sake of...

    Guide To Keg Forced Carbonation.

When I used to force carb I used the gas disconnect (lazy) and you don't have to turn it on its side you just rock as above and you will hear the gas going in, it will just be a little bit more rocking as you are not getting as much gas/liquid contact as bubbling via the liquid line. Turning the...

    The "no Chiller" Method

Yep spot on. There is only so far I was ever going to go in trying to provide exact conditions for each brew because I simply dont have room to ferment two lagers simultaneously. The stored no chill wort was kept at 13degC for the duration (except for the slow chill at ambient overnight). Who...
