    New and learning

Good luck Ross! You'll be making good beers in no time, stick with it. Any beer you make yourself will be cheaper than buying cases usually and don't be afraid to ask questions mate - tonnes of experienced people here to answer everything you can think of

    BRY 97

has anyone on AHB done a yeast comparison with a split batch or the same recipe for say US05 / Bry97 and WLP001? interested to see if people here think the same as the Rebel brewing link who thought Bry97 gave a dryer/ thinner body. I don't think I can brew that consistently to tell the...

    BRY 97

Anyone doing APA or hoppy beers and tossing up between Bry97 and US05 - check out this link: http://www.rebelbrewer.com/blog/yeast-experiment-american-session/ Full credit to the person on AHB who originally posted it in another thread (which unfortunately I can't find). They did a side by...

    Another beginner mashing too high.....

Thanks guys, will revisit this thread when the time comes and try and replicate the magic of ElCarter's brewday but also use Manticle's wisdom

    Another beginner mashing too high.....

Newb question: Since 80C is mashout temp or even a bit higher, would this mean that some processes are stopped and irreversible stuff occurs? such as the remaining 45 minutes back in the mid 60's not convert as per usual? I've got a few other beers planned first but I am keen to try making a...

    Stalled fermentation

1020 is definitely a bit high for a FG. Kit yeast is often too little (5g) instead of 11-20g. As you have probably read as well, the storage and health is more questionable when it has been under a can lid / possibly old too... Did you re-hydrate, sprinkle or other when pitching? Usually I...

    Sydney Bulk Grain Buy

Awesome work, this got pretty crazy the last two days! Thanks for all the organisation Mark - this is a quick question for your and Scooby mainly: Are you guys (or anyone else) looking to sell any containers, grain scoops, buckets, etc. this time around and if so, what size, how much, etc...

    Squeezing before bottling

I haven't used POR but Cascade is great, for a basic pimping if you are just using a hop addition I think you'll notice a bigger difference with cascade. Using some steeped crystal is very easy, I would recommend it as well.

I may have been doing my CC wrongly

Thanks for posting - will try this out as I have been doing more like 1-3 degrees most CC though don't have much experience with lager yeasts. Would you or Batz or any other experienced hands modify the temps or time when making an Alt? Using ale yeast that is. How would you alter this if you...

    No head

What pcmfisher and wombil said. I did some kits & bits brews and used BE2 and still had pretty quick disappearing head. The problem isn't the glass in most cases, it is the beer and the amount of protein. More Malt & more hops in general should = more head. different malts can be better at...

    Maiden BIAB

Yeah good work mate, that's about 19% more sugar than my first attempt :) nice space for brewing you could have a micro brewery there by the looks. Not sure of the evil dog though, that is some truly creepy ****!

    FIRST BIAB!

yeah good luck mate. Lesson from my first couple (maxiBIAB); If you need a bucket/ spare pot to sparge, make sure it is big enough, otherwise you will be cleaning up an extra 10 mins! 90 minute mash is > 60 If you decide to cover the boil even for a minute to help sanitise the lid with...

    Sydney Bulk Grain Buy

I think it is to do with the new sponsor bulk buy section, understandable if those retailers are supporting the site, but Sydney bulk buys seem to be a lot rarer than down south or up north. maybe if everyone lets their brewing mates know it could speed things up?

OK Cool, I'll come back and add in another item or two perhaps but for now would be great to lock in half kilo of centennial with you MBsquared. Also keen on Spalt Select - half kg is fine but I will still take 1kg if no one else wants to come in on it. Thanks AussieBrewer! ------------ Grain...

    Bottle Ferment Temperature Stability

I didn't have enough patience to do an experiment on this. Was planning to condition half batch at 18C (ferment temp) and the other half at ambient which was about 22-24C. I did about 4 days then decided I'd rather use my controlled fridge to ferment new beer. Also, in How to Brew, Palmer says...
