2015 Hop Plantations, Show Us Your Hop Garden!

hmm that's the opposite advice to what I've been told -c utting them back increases the number of cones.

2015 Hop Plantations, Show Us Your Hop Garden!

So I'm told to cut my plants way way back first week of November (talking second year tetnang, my other plants I'm not worried about) to get a bigger crop. At the moment I have 3-4 shoots at about 2.5m height. So, I should just cut em all right back?

2015 Hop Plantations, Show Us Your Hop Garden!

So this year I setup a camera to take a timelapse of my hop plants. I got it all setup a bit late but I'm planning to cut right right back (based on advice from others) first week of November so there's still opportunity. There's a test vid here...

    Water filter storage and maintenance

So since starting this thread I haven't replaced either filter. I store wet for up to a couple of months between brews. I run off 10-15 litres of water before each brew and taste before each brew. (the run off then tends to be used for starters or watering hops or cleaning later in the day or...

Wow! that seems a remarkably simple idea that I'd not thought of. Thanks! I'll give that a bash :)

2015 Hop Plantations, Show Us Your Hop Garden!

They're in pots, they're in the soil. They've been there since last year when I had a whopping 14gram harvest. The thing is there's maybe 6-8 inches of pot above the soil line. my question is: 1) Should I do anything? 2) If so, should I pile soil on top to the rim of the pot and wait until my...

2015 Hop Plantations, Show Us Your Hop Garden!

Wow look at all you guys with shoots already. Last year I didn't plant until September. I haven't even looked yet to see if I've got shoots this year and i've got four more plants. A question for the more experienced growers on transplanting. I have 2 x Wilamette and 2x Tetnang in pots from...

Yeah the MOARRRR TAPE was pretty much the solution I'd thought about, too.

How do you get it pointing straight down? The thread on mine makes it point sideways unless I want my ball tap sideways. I feel like this is a really stupid question but how do I do both?

Randy Mosher Pale Ale Water Profile

? When I plug Ricardo's additions (16g gypsum, 1.6 cacl, 5.6 epsom) into my EZ spreadsheet I certainly don't get 1:3. How'd you get 85 S04? I end up with 268 S04, which is a chloride:sulfate ratio of 0.11, not the 0.33 we're aiming for. (i know this is an old thread but this stuff doesn't...

Keg King's Bottle Filler Beer Gun

I think it works better than a hose for me, and I think it maintains a better carb level. I am pretty convinced I have a leak in the gun somewhere (unsure if it's one of my seals or part of the gun, haven't done an immersion test yet) but it's worked well enough to fill four comp bottles so far...

Keg King's Bottle Filler Beer Gun

Build quality could be better. The little plastic trigger cover came off before I'd even used it. Clamped the hoses on, replaced the gas barb with a gas post so I can use an existing hooked up gas line with the gun. Gave it a few test runs - still seamed heaps foamy to me but I wasn't working...

Keg King's Bottle Filler Beer Gun

Picked one up and a spare gas post too to throw on the gas line out. I'll set it up tonight and report back. Gun comes with some tubes and clamps which makes it even cheaper than I thought

Keg King's Bottle Filler Beer Gun

Cool, thanks. I'll go pick one up at lunch. How are people wrangling the gas connection side of things? I anticipate connecting the gas side of things once in a while and not leaving my gun permanently connected. Will need to figure out how to do a disconnect for it.

Keg King's Bottle Filler Beer Gun

Hey All, I Keg 99% of the time but often fill bottles to enter in comps. I've long been thinking about a Blichmann beer gun but now I see Keg King are offering one, too. (part number 007124 on the price list, here http://kegking.com.au/Downloads/Catalogue%20-%20Retail%20Price%20List.pdf)...

How much infection is too much infection? Swollen Cube.

Yeah it is an experiment. $4 worth of yeast after $40 of ingredients seems a small contribution in comparison to see how things go. As per the comments on infecting other equipment, I elected to ferment in the cube for exactly this reason (though the cube is in one of my fermenting fridges)

How much infection is too much infection? Swollen Cube.

Update: rehydrated some US05 and threw it in the cube. Took another grav reading before I did. 1052. So in four months, somehting has eaten about 8 gravity points worth of sugar. Had a taste, tasted pretty normal. Perhaps a very slight rotten fruit aroma/tang like if you leave a few oranges in...
