    Homebrew twang

that's a good read. even though my LME is in plastic I think I'll have to make some space in the bottles fridge for the extract

    Homebrew twang

I've been making extract beers and also some kit/can ones and have noticed a big difference in quality. Am wondering if it's observer bias or if other people are noticing the same thing. details here they come: My first beers used coopers pale ale tins and had a pretty horrid 'homebrew twang'...

    Beer on tap when camping

Did you think about putting the plate chiller in the freezer rather than the fridge? Just thinking out aloud here but: 1. Beer has a lower freezing point than water, especially if high grav. So hopefully it wouldn't freeze in your lines 2. If it was colder this might eliminate your pint-pint...

    Coopers pale ale

I would just stay away from S-04 altogether, there are plenty of other yeasts which are great for pale ales and bitters and don't suck like S-04 When I tried to ferment at 18, it stalled When I tried to ferment at 22, it tasted rubbish (adequate pitching rate both times) If you want a dry yeast...

    Bread Porn

Just baked my first loaf with no bakers yeast 1kg flour, 1 pint bottle conditioned double IPA, a bit of salt, sugar and butter It was a 24 hour ferment with no knocking back, now I'm wondering if I should have knocked it and given it another day? But then I wouldn't be eating it for lunch...

    CaraRye - Weyermann

That is an awesome guide. I brewed a rye porter a couple of weeks ago and haven't bottled it yet but I ended up changing the recipe at the last minute because I couldn't get any crystal rye. Next time I'll just roast my own!

    Galaxy double IPA

Lotta love for galaxy, but it seems like every micro in Australia does too now. So I don't know when I'll next be able to buy some, and this recipe uses 200g in 17L?? Holy balls. Also the bitterness is very far into the Imperial IPA range, let alone double. Don't think I'll be blowing all my...

Android brewing apps for tablet, anything decent out there?

Beer Smith has an android app and cloud integration to sync with the PC app. It's not free but you can earn Google Play credits by installing Google Rewards and doing several very short surveys. I did this last year and had enough credits that it didn't cost me anything to get the Beer Smith...

    Andale Floryte wear plates

Yeah probably a good idea just to get the service kits, cheers Proud to say I only spent $100 including postage for four taps. only one handle but I'm making new ones anyway. Morgans Dark

How hot the wort when you chucked the yeast in? If it was hot enough to have actually killed it then the dead cells will just be a nice bit of nutrient if you pitch more yeast (at the correct temperature). I'd leave it a few weeks in primary to make sure they have time to clean up after...
