Building a Keg Collar - various questions on build etc.

No idea about the woodworking aspects, sorry. I just used particle white board... (classy, I know) With the hinges for the lid, I didn't have any issues with springs coming out, or wanting to come out... Would be interested in see a photo of those hinges, to see if they'll actually spring out...

    Cup holder drip tray?

I use this for my drip tray. https://www.bunnings.com.au/everhard-easydrain-1m-compact-channel-with-80mm-black-polymer-grate_p4770222 You just need to buy an end cap for it, and I'd recommend putting a tap or something on it for drainage (though not necessary). Doesn't look very pretty, but...

Beer line length vs beer style

I'm struggling with this very issue right now. I've got a lager on tap, I like to keep nice and spritzy, so plenty of pressure there, but its' a right pain in the ass to get a glass of beer poured out of it, instead of just a glass of foam. I've tried both flow control and normal taps, long and...

Announcing Merri Mashers IPA Comp 2017

Ideally 2 bottle in total, 330ml or 750ml (or 500/600/660, etc). The second bottle is used for a best of show round of judging.

My Gift to all Homebrewers: I created a fast and accurate brewing calc

It's showing 5.06% ABV for me on thebrewlist.com.

    Keg King Intertap

I've gotten to a point now where I refuse to use push in fittings for any long term connections. Far too many leaks. While barb and MFL fittings, I've never had a problem with.

My Gift to all Homebrewers: I created a fast and accurate brewing calc

I think the forced carb calculation is correct, but the style guidelines seem off.

    Keg King Intertap

Not really what I mean, I'm talking about the barb/MFL connector on the back of the tap shank - http://kegking.com.au/keg-couplers-and-keg-disconnects/taps/angle-barbtail-to-be-used-with-5-8-hex-nut.html Can't find any 90 elbow versions with MFL connectors instead of barbs.

Whats the source for those carbonation styles? Them seem too low. 1.9 vols for and IPA seems very low (for example).

    Different wort aeration kits

That's what I was wondering as well. I don't imagine that chinsy flow meter would handle the pressure of the tank directly... Any chance of getting a part list for this? Interested in the connection to the bottle and reg/flow meter in use!

    Keg King Intertap

I would agree about line length and balancing being a better option than using flow control taps. The way the flow is controlled just seems to introduce far too much turbulence. That said, I wish there was a more practical way to change over beer lines on a whim. Right now they best I've seen...

    Welding Courses (Melbourne)

Totally a concern of mine as well. I mean I'm not looking to make a bridge or anything (hell, nothing even like the examples given), but I want to know if I make, say, a brew stand, it's gonna hold the 50+KGs, and not fall apart on me. Sure Youtube can show me a little, but it's no replacement...

    Keg King Intertap

Didn't I just read before that the extra line length is contributing to the foam, though? Anyway, are people just accepting that there's a need to depressurise your keg before pouring? (and if so, what's the point in getting the flow control taps?) Has anyone compared these to the Perlick FC...

    Keg King Intertap

Right, so brought the tube length right back last night, probably less than 1 metre now. It's helped a little, but it was very, very marginal. I'm not getting air in the beer line anymore, but it still foams like a mofo. I don't really want to go down the path of reducing the pressure to serve...

    Welding Courses (Melbourne)

Yeah, I guess the "where" isn't so much the location, but the institute. Obviously location is very important, but it ties back to the time of the course more than anything. It wouldn't matter where the location was if it was held on Saturday's, for example.

    Welding Courses (Melbourne)

Yeah, the ones I've seen are Melbourne Polytechnic in Heidelberg, and Swinburn in Wantirna. Both of those courses are start too early for me to get there in time though, 5-5:30ish, from memory, which is before I finish work most days, so I'd need to duck out way, way earlier to get there in...

    Welding Courses (Melbourne)

Sorry, that's a good point. The more central the better. Docklands would be fine, I work in Richmond so getting anywhere outside of the city, before say 6:30pm, is quite the challenge. Looking at Kangan now, their website is pretty lacking in the details, will need to get in contact with them...

    Welding Courses (Melbourne)

Right, so, I'm not so much looking for advice on WHAT to learn, but WHERE to learn it. Already decided on either Tig or Arc (preferably both, for learning!), as they seem more difficult to learn than Mig (thus not wasting my money/time). The gear and stuff will be decided once I know my...

    Welding Courses (Melbourne)

Can anyone recommend some welding courses, in Melbourne? I'm keen to do a bit of work like brewstands and other metal work for situations where wood just isn't cutting it. Not sure what kind of welding I'd be doing, most likely Arc, but certainly interested in Tig as well. Mig and Oxy I'm not...
