    Merri Mashers IPA Comp 2018

We've had a great response so far from both sponsors and members interested in helping us out, but we're still in need of judges and stewards on the day, the 25th of March. If you are able to, and want to help us out, it would be most appreciated. We're collecting details in this form here -...

Did this forum change categories? (META)

They're a bit hard to find/notice now, any chance of getting them at least grouped together under "The Brew Shed" so we can see new posts? I mean, DIY projects is a fair bit different from kit extract brewing...

Did this forum change categories? (META)

So, did anyone else notice that this forum ("Gear and Equipment", and the DIY and Electronics forums) change categories just like yesterday? Or am I going crazy? I could have sworn those 3 were in their own category, just above the one that has the comps and events in it...

Oh. Yes. Better be in this!

    Merri Mashers IPA Comp 2018

It's super easy, get a carbonation cap from Keg King (and check on their video on how to counter pressure fill). Very low oxygen introduced, low CO2 loss, and like you've said, in the PET bottles, much easier to handle.

    Merri Mashers IPA Comp 2018

Ergh, that just sounds annoying! (I'm a firm believer in counter pressure filled PET bottles being superior to glass though)

    Merri Mashers IPA Comp 2018

Not specifically on the website, about PET bottles at least, just the size requirements. Like all home brew comps (at least in Melbourne), we're fine with PET or glass bottles.

    co2 alarms

Is anyone using a co2 alarm for leaks in their systems? I'm not even sure how much of a risk it is, but I do worry having a 6 kilo gas bottle of co2 in my garage... Seems like the kind of thing, if a hose blew out, would push out dangerous levels of co2, and your wouldn't necessarily know about...

I'm watching this thread simply because of that fact... Good to know if there are other viable options out there.

    Melbourne Brewers' Beerfest 2018 (Vic)

No dramas, just checking, no rush at all! I've messaged you my details.

    Melbourne Brewers' Beerfest 2018 (Vic)

This open for entry now? Can't see the entry page up in compmaster yet. Also are you calling out for Judges and Stewards?

    Keg Ninja Software

For sure, I question their business model, if they're not charging for access, and they say they're not going to use advertising, how are they paying for the hosting and traffic for the site?

    RIMS Tubes

Yeah, I'm looking into HERMS as well, as it's obviously a bit more simpler to set up. Just getting the feel for the RIMS setups out there to weigh up both options. I'd like to keep things compact, like with the RIMS, as I'm using it with a single keggle BIAB.

    RIMS Tubes

Sup AHB? So, I'm curious what's everyone using for RIMS tubes? I know of the Kegking one, and similar designs from the States (at various price points, with FX and shipping, ending up costing a pretty penny in dollarydoos). Are people building their own, if so out of what? I'm assuming PVC...

Recommended cordless drill for a grain mill & Whirlpool Paddle

Most modern 18v Li-Ion cordless drills will have more than enough torque for a home brew size grain mill. You don't want them running fast though, so go for one with 2 speeds. I've got a reasonably old now Bosch Blue cordless, has no issues crewing through whatever I throw at it, keyless locking...

    Where to Buy Beer Line

I got some Valpar Superflexmaster (or whatever it's called), off eBay, some small HB online shoppe. Was a good buy, can recommend.

Using Temperature Controllers - gaps with cables through fridge seal

Gaps are nothing for one cable, just when you start getting lotsa cables or thicker cables, you might have some issues, but really, you're not using it as a fridge, you're keeping it at like 18 degrees, it doesn't need to work hard to do that.

    Australian Amateur Brewing Championship

As a fellow Victorian and homebrewer, I am ashamed of the Vicbrew and AABC websites... Surely amongst all the volunteers that help out, we can scrounge up enough talent to do better than this. (Yes, I will volunteer if wanted)

    Australian Amateur Brewing Championship

That's probably the way to go. Even if BJCP don't get on board, just make the AABC guidelines a facsimile of the BJCP ones, with addendums for the Aussie specific styles. That way everyone can work towards the same standard, for all styles, except the specific ones we want to do.

    Australian Amateur Brewing Championship

To be honest, with the response I'm seeing here, I wouldn't have put down my email address if I was judging, either. Don't think I'd be too happy giving up my time, and possibly paying my way to the other side of the country, just to have my work belittled and questioned by people that weren't...
