brew infected - help with the post mortem please

Are you saying that you chilled it to 40 degrees before cubing? If so, there's your problem right there...

    2012 Hop Plantations

IIRC you're supposed to brush a cone backwards and if 20% or so of the leaves come off, they're ready. Think there may be some differing opinions though. I think my first harvest will be on the weekend for about 3 dozen Victoria cones. In another few weeks I reckon nearly all the burrs left will...

    Help Wanted! (sydney)

Thanks for the offer Josh. Looks like Barls and I are going to do a bit of a collaborative brew and see how it goes from there. Hopefully that will let me know once and for all where the root of the problem is. Maybe a cube swap after I get it all sorted?

    Help Wanted! (sydney)

Some good points there. I try to minimise exposure to oxygen at all times after pitching, so it really has me buggered if it is oxidation in my keg, as I ran it straight to the keg from the primary. I will make a point of being extra careful next batch. As for temp... I usually pitch around...

    Help Wanted! (sydney)

I was thinking diacetyl too, but I do a d-rest and leave it a few extra days before moving on. Next batch I will leave in primary for 2 weeks including a d-rest. I've used dry yeast directly sprinkled and also rehydrated. I've used liquid yeast direct pitched and also in a starter. Same issue...

    Help Wanted! (sydney)

So, what I am hoping for is some kind hearted Sydney brewer to cube a beer and swap it with me for a cube of the same/similar recipe. And this is why.... Ever since we moved to Berowra in April, I have been plagued with a weird taste and stripping of flavour from my beers. With the exception of...

    Whats In The Glass (commercial)

My sister bought this over straight from the brewery in NZ. One of the real standout beers of the Xmas break. There were many, many others but this flagon of Bitter Bitch was top stuff. Even if it was lacking in carbonation due to being filled 24hrs prior to arriving and not being refrigerated.

    Trip Through Newcastle To Sydney

I went to Warners and Murrays yesterday. I would be bankrupt 100 times over if I were to sample everything available at Warners. Doubt you'll find anything much in Sydney that you can't find at Warners. (except for locally brewed beers on tap at their respected brewpubs)

Definitely going to have a pair of flow control taps in the near future. For now I will just have to keep the taps clean and the seals lubed.

I had a fairly good idea what was behind the tarp, but she had actually walled off the alcove, so it was hard to tell. It was either this or a home gym. Sticker is as good as gone. :icon_cheers:

    Home Brew On A Plane

My sister brought over 2 flagons of beer that she filled at The Regional in Wellington last night. They have generic labels but no specific ingredients etc... Sydney customs took one look and let them through. Delicious :icon_cheers:

Sorry for your loss. I don't know what we'd do if we lost both our little guys at once like that. I will raise a glass to their memory as soon as the bottle is cold.
