Getting the most out of PID Control - Modelling HLT/1V, RIMS and HERMS

Way out of my league......................... Are you saying that and STC1000 would do a better job of controlling mash temperature than a PID?

Brewtoad vs Beersmith, am I missing out?

It's worth persevering and really getting to grips with Beersmith. Once you dial in your equipment profile you can achieve great and repeatable results and generally hit your numbers every time. But you have to take records and get your equipment profile right. I use Beersmith for recipe...

    Fermenting Lagers under pressure

I used to do this, but found it more trouble than it was worth. I found the spunding valves that are available very unreliable and difficult to calibrate. I never noticed and improvement in taste and the gain in free carbonation was offset by the fact that I used to have to use CO2 for a closed...

    Mash Acidification

You could try the online calculator at www.brewersfriend.com to confirm your results. Or download the EZ Water Spreadsheet. I find that gives very accurate results.

Acidulated Malt to 88% Lactic Acid Conversion

Thanks guys, I do use EZ Water calculator to work out my water additions including lactic acid. I was looking for an easy way to convert recipes that contain Acidulated Malt into recipes that use a Lactic Acid addition instead. I understand that acidulated malt is approx. 3% lactic acid by...

Acidulated Malt to 88% Lactic Acid Conversion

Hi, I was wondering if anyone knows the direct conversion for grams of Acidulated Malt to ml of 88% Lactic Acid. The table below is from the Bruakaiser website and leads me to believe that if I divide the weight in grams of Acidulated malt in a recipe by 35 it will give me the required amount...

    Brewing software

Another vote for Beersmith. I have it on my laptop which I can take with me into the garage on brewday. Great for keeping an inventory of your brewing consumables as well.

    My new budget Grainfather-esque setup

You will have to change the malt to liquor ratio to suit a full volume mash to make the calculator work. Not sure what that ratio would be though.

The Brauduino (Matho’s Controller) Buy thread

Lael, Just wondering if you'll be re-hashing the assembly video to accommodate the component changes since the last video was made? For me the video gave me some confidence that I'd actually be able to assemble the kit.

    Shut Up About Barclay Perkins

I've just stumbled across this blog, which has some great recipes for the lovers of traditional British Beers. http://barclayperkins.blogspot.co.uk/ I think that I'll be attempting at least a couple of these in the near future.

Expressions of Interest - SS fermenter cones- Melb, Syd, anywhere

Not trying to be a smart arse, but it may be a little awkward to clean properly as you won't be able to get your hand in there. Edit: Sodium percarbonate may do it though.

Redundancies from work, anyone else seeing it in your industry?

Anyone servicing the Oil & Gas / Mining Industries in Western Australia will probably have had a pay cut this year if they didn't get made redundant. It's a double whammy for the Perth Engineering industry with both the Oil and Iron Ore prices going through the floor, which means that all of...

would 50 litre keg be large enough for double batch?

I also ferment in 19 liter corny kegs, but as you need some head space in the keg for krausen etc. you probably won't be filling the kegs right up from the kettle. I use Fermcap S to keep the krausen down, but even then leave two or three liters of head space in the kegs when fermenting.

    Favourite Brew Related Podcast?

I've tried a couple of brewing pod casts, but those have been bad enough to put me off listening to any more. I'm not sure which ones I listened to, but as has been mentioned previously, you have to sit through a lot of self promotion and crap to get to any good bits. Maybe I'll give it...
