    Cheap Temperature Logging?

Hi BigAl Have a look at Marty's site. There was another thread on here recently about the DS1820 sensors. the rrdtool software is free and works on either Linux or Windows. The pic shows the temperature of our chilled water tank, but I have others sensing the air temperature, HLT, fermenters...

    My Temp Control Setup

Just to make it easier for everyone 1. You can buy the serial interfaces already made up for the DS1820's (and other 1 wire devices). They are expensive to get shipped unless you want a few of them (bulk buy!) 2. The digitemp software is available that will read the DS1820's for you. 3. You can...

    Refractometer Problem?

Ross Have a look at my previous post (and also Zwickel's and sqyre's) in this thread - the ATC is not correcting the sample temperature and we have found you must cool the sample to get an accurate reading Pedro

    Which Is Better

The light wavelengths from a globe won't cause light struck beer in the time it takes to ferment, though I think fluros do. Cheers Pedro

    Refractometer Problem?

We have had erroneous readings in the brewery using a refractometer. I think the ATC refers to correction for the ambient temperature, not the wort sample. We find the safest and most accurate way is to cool the sample and then measure. Cheers Pedro

    Cloudy Wit

Hi Josh I have noticed that the wit beers I have done with a larger percentage of raw wheat seem to be dryer and tarter than those that use more torrefied / wheat malt. My efficiency drops to buggery as well when I use raw wheat. One thing mentioned in the belgian ales book is to throw a...

Stupid Question For A New Masher.

Hi Paleman The braid forms a point where the mash is filtered. The husks from the crushed malt form a filter bed against the braid and the wort is clarified as it passes through the filter bed. This is why you don't want to mill or crack the grain too fine and shred the husk. If you haven't...

    Beer Taxes

Hi facter Excise is paid by the beer manufacturer on the number of litres of alcohol in the beer. The rate varies on the size of the container it is sold in and the alcoholic strength (low alcohol has a lower rate of excise). The info is on the ATO, just keep searching for excise and beer...
