    Kegging Setups

Can't comment exactly on number of kegs because I don't monitor my 2.6 too closely. I run 3-4 kegs at a time, force carb and use gas to push beer from half full kegs into 9.5's. End up filling mine every 6 months. Can comment that when you have a leak (and you will one day) it's cheaper to...

    Can't get that Euro aroma

Bribie, did a side by side with Stella (a leftover from a party) and I noticed the same thing. My lager was all 60min hops but got me thinking about how much aroma you can get from late additions. Given reputation of mega brews I am thinking that the hop smack on the nose is from hop extract...

2016 NSW Mid Year Case Swap - Tasting & Recipes thread

#21 Peter80's English Brown Ale Not too familiar with this style but I thought I would compare this beer to the 2008 style guidelines for Southern Brown. Aroma check, appearance check, flavour check, mouthfeel check, overall impression check! Just missing Peter80's name in commercial examples!

2016 NSW Mid Year Case Swap - Tasting & Recipes thread

#1 Pratty1's Choc Vanilla Porter Pours black with deep amber highlights. Low tan head, carb on lower end. Aroma is rich mocha and roast. Flavour is sweet malt with a really nice background note of bitter chocolate. Finishes medium dry but not thin, lots of cocoa lingers. Becomes richer as it...

2016 NSW Mid Year Case Swap - Tasting & Recipes thread

n87 Heady Topper Clone I have not had the original so shooting in the dark Golden copper colour, very clear after a month in the fridge. Tight persistent white head. Subdued aroma that lifts as it warms, tropical fruit, herbal notes. Dry malt quickly swamped with pithy but clean citrus...

    What are you Brewing 2016?

I did it on a previous batch trying to get the FG down, dry it out. Now I have pure oxygen hopefully this will be less of an issue. Also diluting out a bit of the Pils character won't go astray. I really like this style when its fizzy hop water with a touch of malt, ala Bitburger

    What are you Brewing 2016?

Yeah I knew that when i ordered it but I rarely buy my lager yeasts to suit a particular style. WLP833 has been such a great performer for me with everything from Aussie Lagers, to Pils, to Helles. I tend to brew two or three lagers in a row pitching the yeast cakes (or most of it). Will be...

    What are you Brewing 2016?

Aussie Lager - based on a recipe that got 2nd at the Nats, which was based on a recipe from Bribie G that did well at the Nats. Using a different yeast this time. My go to lager yeast is WLP833 German Bock but I couldnt be bothered to order from a separate supplier than my grain. Ended up...

    Berliner Weisse

Brewing Network Podcast 'Brewing with Style' 6th October 2015 - Berlinner Weisse show, 43min20sec in Info is relayed by Jamil from a conversation he had with folks at Wyeast (not White Labs). Apparently they got best results with Euro Ale strain for sacc fermentation

    Berliner Weisse

White labs did some trials in the US on when to add Lacto. They got more sourness when they added the ale yeast first, fermented out, then added Lacto. Sounds anti intuitive (less food for Lacto to eat) but the results were repeatable. I have done a couple of kettle sours using grain as the...

Sodastream hack for mini regulator... ?

Yep, use them to push beer in my portable setups linked to a Sodastream. Work very well. Main issue is getting the adjustable pin in adaptor right, can take a bit of mucking about and some lost CO2 first time.

2016 NSW Mid Year Case Swap - Tasting & Recipes thread

Thanks for the feedback Les. To be perfectly honest I am not too sure what it was meant to taste like either. A note from Gordon Strong on the recipe said 'This is in the Schwarzbier style with stronger bitterness and hop character than many examples. It is important that the roast character...

Sour Beers - Why Don't I Get Them?

Definitely need to go the gateway beers like Berlinner Weisse or those mixed with fruits. As said above try to source well made examples from established breweries or newer ones doing a good job (Batch in Sydney do some nice sour mash stuff with fruit, La Sirene in Melbourne is all pretty good)...
