    Session IPA

Isn't 'Session IPA' just a marketing term for 'American Pale Ale'. All the beers I have tried with this on the label have just tasted like (usually mediocre) pale ales to me. Is there actually something that truly defines them from an APA?

    Straightening stainless coil

remove the rubber and use heat? Use a bigger screw driver? Use the hole in the handle of a larger adjustable spanner or a large ring spanner? You should be able to stick the tubing through the spanner and use it like a lever to straighten it. If you use a ring spanner, you can extend its...

    Force Carbonation & Head Space

I have had a sticky return valve in my manifold caused by accidently sucking beer into the gas line. This caused one keg to stop receiving gas and went flat. At the time I cranked the pressure until the valve was forced open, it took about 40psi, and later gave the manifold a good soak.

    What grain mill to buy

I wouldn't overthink it to much. They all crush grain and end up resulting in beer. BIAB is pretty forgiving with the quality of the grist. The keg king 2 roller is 140 new, selling for around 80 second hand. That leaves some savings for sacks of malt and bulk hops.

    Spunding Valve

I use a minikeg as a blow off vessel. Lose very little volume.

    Incremental feeding

This is why you heat the water to what is called 'strike temp' which allows for the cooling effect of the grains. Usually the water is heated to about 70-73 and will cool to 65-68 or so. There are calculators on line to help with this. Boil it hard. No, if you go over 78 while the grain is...

    Making pilsners with ale malt

Yeah, shouldn't they be called IBA?

    Making pilsners with ale malt

All pilsners are lagers, not all lagers are pilsners.

    Incremental feeding

Definitely mash the grains. It isnt hard. Mashing, especially at this scale, is really just soaking the crushed grain in hot (60-70c) water for an hour or so. I would consider inverting the sugar too. 1Kg of table sugar will represent a significant amount of the fermentables. Sucrose gives off...

I love beer and brewing, but..

I just wish I could have a pint with lunch sometimes on work days. Working in the city, so many tasty options, zero tolerance company wide policy. I sit behind a desk. It's just cruel.

    Second-Hand Grain Mill EOIs

If anyone in Perth interested in a ghetto mill in a bucket so they can buy bulk malt and get into cheap BIAB I'll swap it for some decent local craft beer. It's not fancy but it works. I've milled well over 100kg of malt with it and made many kegs of beer from the results. Runs nicely off a...

    Beer Tap Quality question.

I have 3 flow control intertaps and they are great. I think they where $60 each. Same shop has SS intertap (non FC) for $40. Add on other $38 for a 100mm stainless shank.

    Brewometer

There are actually a bunch of backend options for the device, both remote and local in varying stages of development as far as I can tell. The git hub for the device itself lists a few but there are some other independent ones as well, some supporting or at least planning to support the Tilt too.

$25 grain mill motor from bread maker

The pulley system is a gear reduction mechanism which divides speed but multiplies torque. Effective torque is increased by gear reduction.

    Vaping

So good to see so many brewers ditching the smokes for vaping. Buy a vape mate, you wont look back. I would start by just importing some quality juice from the US. I would be very surprised if the laws where actively enforced, but i could be wrong. Mount Baker is a good start, their...

Couple of hot days in Melbourne

I have built a few temp controllers now. StC-1000 from ebay. (They are exactly like some inkbird models) From Jaycar or similar Project box/enclosure to suite a few cable glands some cable terminals plus a couple of cheap extension leads from Bunnings. I just cut and drilled holes in the...

    Small Batch carbing

Need a sparkler bottle attachment. push it onto the neck of the bottle and pour it through it to help aerate it. Yeah never tried this method. I would be included to maybe up the carb level a bit, but I'm not a big stout drinker so my opinion is probably worthless.
