    Kegging scotch and coke

I've had a go a few times at a 'dark & stormy' until the novelty wore off and I decided it was just easier to buy a nip pourer. One takeaway was keep everything super chilled during the process. Keeping your 'mixer' on the cusp of freezing seems to limit C02 loss during transfer. Also...

    Verdant IPA

I took up 30 minute boils on the strength of David's vids, and things began to go wonky. Switched back to 60 and consistency more or less returned. Dunno why. Granted, I don't have a nervous breakdown over a couple of points here and there. I think the fermentation stage is where you need to...

    Fridge freezer combo control

I was headed down this route a while back and decided it was all to much of a faff. Decided a Gumtree chest freezer was a better option. I now run it off an ink bird at 2 deg. Holds two cornys and a about two slabs of whatever you like on the shelf. If it's to short, they're easy to modify by...

    Sugar in keg

Use to do this when brewing 25L at a time and had a similar experience. Now I've cut back to keg sized 18L batches. As for priming the keg, you really need to ensure you have perfect sealing. With no internal pressure (initially), you're relying on the seals on the poppet valves and lid alone...

"How to lose a few kgs in an evening beer recipe" :) - lesson learnt - READ

This PSA might also save someone the grief of discharging fluids from either end of their digestive tract. The take home being its not just the cooked stuff than can bring you unstuck. Pictured below is an innocuous looking and to be honest, delicious sweetened with condensed milk iced coffee...

"How to lose a few kgs in an evening beer recipe" :) - lesson learnt - READ

Well, you cant smell or taste botulism, but the fact you didn't stop breathing and keel over would suggest it probably wasn't. But it use to be a real sizzler from time to time when the subject of no chill came up.. I to lost a few kilos last Sunday evening after ingesting a few lukewarm...

    Turning Japanese.

I also love free beer. (Well, of course its not technically free as I'm sure its baked into the cost of accommodation. But the illusion is strong..) Spent a few nights at Ginzano onsen where the handle is yours to pull from 11am to 11pm daily. Of course, you know how it goes when a bunch of...

    Turning Japanese.

Why wouldn't ya? Cheap drinkies isn't the only reason we visit, far from it, but its a very nice perk. As is the fact you can step out of a decent restaurant well fed and watered for around $60 Aussie. Family of four mind you. Arigato Gozaimasu indeed. Read' Em and weep. Yes, thats $23.72...

    Intro from NZ

Just returned from another couple of weeks on the south island. The rose coloured holiday glasses notwithstanding, why so many Kiwis want to emigrate to Australia I do not understand. Tuatara and I became fast friends. Never had a dud. That said, one can step into a Four Square and peruse a...

    What Is Kava?

On a recent trip to Vanuatu, I pulled aside a waiter at a restaurant where we ate most days. A young, friendly and capable local who seemed to know instinctively when to hit me with another Tusker Bitter. I figured he could hook me up with legit kava. 'Not that tourist ****, the stuff locals...

Storing unused beer lines in keezer setup

I've used option 7 for ever and ever without issue, at least the one with the 'liquid / liquid' fitting on each end I use to transfer from the fermentasaurus. After clean up, I flush the line with 'starsan' from the fermenter into an empty keg and pop the connector off on the keg side so a...

And degas the keg. This is a critical step if, like me, you live on the edge and fill the keg a to within a nanometer from the tip of the 'gas in' tube. Guess what happens when there's 35psi in the keg and 10psi in the line. Thats right! The pressure differential created forces beer straight...

We're putting bubbles into beer, not launching satellites. 2.5 bar (around 35 psi) at 3 deg for 24 hours. Disconnect gas, purge keg. Reconnect gas. Drop it back to around 70 kpa (10 psi) and serve. Works every time.

    What are you listening to

My god, that brings back memories of a jury duty I decided not to avoid because work was quiet at the time and thought 'why not'. Holy ****, so glad the judge declared a mistrial on day two. Was NOTHING like A Few Good men..

    What are you listening to

Hi there Pat, welcome aboard! But this is the 'what are you listening to' thread, not the 'chimping' thread or 'Hello everyone' thread. Yeah, I know it's confusing! Here' I'll get you started, luv. I'm currently enjoying the musical stylings of the Screaming Trees featuring the late and...

I've come to ask the experts.

He did? My apologies to DallasG then. I mistook you for one of those chat GPT's or a Chinese spyware bot or troll smartarse. The internet. Its a such a minefield nowadays. You can never be sure. Carry on then.

I've come to ask the experts.

'Medical reasons' you say. Are you a bilateral amputee (arms)? If so, I'm sure you have built enough strength and dexterity in your feet to manage hoisting a bag out of an urn with a simple pulley system. Or have your carer help you. Would make a nice change of pace from wiping your arse I'm sure.

    Silicone seal for Lid

If you're a dab hand with a silicone gun, you could always run a bead around and smooth it off with a nice soapy finger. As a plumber in a former life, I can tell you its worth shelling out a few extra bux for the decent stuff.
