My Ag Cherry Has Been Popped

The towel insulated mash tun :) and my mash temp gauge. It has a 10cm stem, and I drilled a hole through the top of the lid so it measures mash temp without having to open the tun. It's actually reading 155F in this pic.

My Ag Cherry Has Been Popped

    Well, I've finally done it. I've made an all grain beer. The Original Recipe: 5kg Pale Malt (JWM I believe) 0.25kg Crystal (120-150 EBC) 30g Northern Brewer 60min 9.5% 25g E.K.G 30min 5.2% 20g E.K.G 15min 5.2% 1968 London ESB Yeast I was planning on a mash efficiency of 65% (O.G of...

    SA AHB Xmas Case 2005

So we need 50 stubbies each then? Mine will all be of the same style, but maybe not the same batch. I only popped my AG cherry on the weekend, so I'll be doing the same style for a few batches to perfect my process. The brewday went without a hitch by the way... Aside from a better...

    Boiling Times

Just found this thread... But what about FWH? Will boiling for approx 30 min before the bittering hop addition affect the whole FWH concept? I'm an AG virgin until this weekend, so I'm glad I found this thread. Yet more good info. You just never stop learning...

    SA AHB Xmas Case 2005

I reckon 25 is a good cap. Now I need to go and get some tallies... I ain't giving away my precious Grolsch bottles  p.s. if anyone has some Grolsch swingtops they aren't using I'd be happy to take them off your hands :)

    Plastic Electric Boilers

The plasticiser used in most food safe plastic products is generally citric acid. The same stuff that is used in glad wrap, and as a food additive in a huge amount of foods. I'm sure there are more (and more harmful) additives in commercial beer, just look up Food Standards Australia...

    SA AHB Xmas Case 2005

So... What are the rules/time frames for this? I still have to get my ag setup build yet. Should only take another month or so :) This may give me some motivation to get brewing.

    Plastic Electric Boilers

Just got myself one of those 60L fermenters to use for my boiler. The 30L would probably have had boil-overs. Now I'll be able to have nice long hard boils :)

    Plastic Electric Boilers

Great pics Sintax. What's the volume of the Bucket of Death? And why are the elements mounted one above the other? (I didn't think of doing it that way). Anyway, thanks. Now I've got a bit more of an idea for my boiler.

    Plastic Electric Boilers

Barry and Nonicman, You used the plastic tap that comes with the fermenter? I was thinking of using a ball valve fitted with bulkhead type fittings. Although I'm not sure where the best place to fit it is due to that funny band that runs around the bottom of the fermenter. I'm interested in...

    Plastic Electric Boilers

G'day all, I've been reading through the forum for the last week or so gathering knowledge for my impeding leap onto ag brewing. I've got; 1. 35lt hot water urn for my HLT ($5 from a garage sale and only a small amount of scale in the bottom, the rest is shiny new!), 2. a 30lt esky and...
