    Cider Yeast?

I recently made my first cider from 18L of Aldi apple juice and a sachet of US-05. It worked out really well. I reckon S-04 should do a decent job too.

The greater the heat differential, the better the heat exchange... but if you don't have enough ice to last for the whole run, I would think it'd be best used at the end where you can get the cooling water below ambient. I'm not a scientist though (well, not in that field :P )

    Arduino Development Thread

I like the sound of that change. It makes a lot of sense. I think they should really have a go at fixing that autotune library because it's a PITA to work with and you pretty much need to tune it for it to tune the PID... not ideal.

When I was testing with my electric jug, the best I could do was: Kp=5, Ki=0.5, Kd=98. I also clamped the Ki to never go over 5 to prevent wind up. With those values, I was getting around a 0.7°C overshoot, which isn't bad considering it is a 2.4KW element in a 1.7L vessel.

help me Computer Gurus, your my only hope

Sophos AV's support was pretty fantastic when I worked for a reseller back in 2004. AVG is a free one that used to be pretty decent. It was pretty on par with Sophos in terms of virus detection back then, but as with most free stuff, support was up to you. To be honest, I don't run any...

A reseller switching to a cheaper unit is by no means an assurance on quality.

find a font you like that is bolder and force firefox to use only your font in the options. It will mess with the formatting of every other site, though.

What I tend to do, is arbitrarily pick a P value, and then follow their instructions with regard to setting the I and D values. Following the very basic premise that the P gain sets to speed at which you approach your target and the I gain sets the rate at which you adjust for error over time...

Tuning is the hardest part of the whole process in my opinion, and the lack of documentation on the autotune library makes it pretty well useless. Of the multiple iterations I've run it through, I can get a much better tune just by manually following the process in this article...

    Matho's controller

The Gainspan GS1011 wifi module is capable of using serial comms. You may be able to find a shield that makes use of this and use pins 0,1 (hardware serial) for wifi. Here are a couple of possibilities... http://www.linksprite.com/product/showprod...g=en&id=116...

scrap that... SPI pins conflict with the shield this can't be programmed around.

You'll need to select "Arduino Duemilanove w/ ATmega328" in the board menu. I'm not sure if the "programmer" menu makes any difference to just uploading code, but I have arduinoISP selected because that's what I use to flash the bootloader onto empty chips. Hope that helps.

Qld Xmas 2012 Case Swap..Venue Changed

Sounds like another top swap at the Sqyres. The IBUs had a top day too, be we remarked that we should endeavour to ensure the IBU xmas party/pub crawl and the swap never coincide again.... Two top beer events are better than one! Although based on how I'm feeling today, perhaps we should also...

Good to see you fleetingly on the skype yesterday arvo, Nick. I'm pretty sure I saw InCider too, which shouldn't surprise me. Someone turns on a camera somewhere and InCider appears out of nowhere!

Your errors indicate that you haven't installed the libraries required. You will need the OneWire library from here: http://www.pjrc.com/teensy/td_libs_OneWire.html and the PID library from here: http://playground.arduino.cc/Code/PIDLibrary You will need to install them with the instructions...

That looks fine. You want some sort of veroboard/perfboard. Veroboard has strips of copper joining each hole in a row (like the second one you linked). They are easier to use because you don't need to bridge the pads for each hole. To cut the strip, use a drill bit in one of the holes.
