Bunnings hosing and irrigation section. Colour coded by size. Keep in mind though, while the clamp is stainless the screw is not and will rust if soaked etc.

    Sodium Percarbonate

I just ran pure sodium perc through all my brewery over the weekend. There were bits of gunk in the hoses at the QD connections and I didnt trust the plate chiller any more. Filled 20 litres of perc and water in the electric HLT set to boil and ran both pumps. From HLT through chiller, all hoses...

    Chiller Idea

What will happen is that the wort will hit the coil that is in the solid ice and melt the 10mm of ice directly in contact with it and create little heated pockets of water within the ice block. This will eventually pool at the bottom of the block and leave the coil adjacent to air gaps within...

    Chilling And Pitching?

Do the recirc as suggested above or if you don't have the capacity to recirc you'll need to do some maths. Like this; Just chill a set amount of the wort to whatever your chiller gets to. eg 20L knockout 4.5L @ 25C + 15.5L @ 95C = 20L @ 79.2C So you only need to pass 4.5L through your chiller...

    Chilling And Pitching?

Something to consider if you find yourself in this spot again. As above whilst notideal to leave wort unsealed without innoculation, keep in mind that the rate of isomerisation drops off significantly after the wort cools to below 80C. So perhaps in the future chill to just below 80, then into...

Help With Grain Bill For An Ipa

I agree with this ^. No need for the wheat. Rarely do IPAs have wheat in them. Refer to brewing classic styles and you'll seldomly see the addition of wheat. IPAs also rarely have problems with head retention. All those hops help out there. IMO the last recipe quoted, will give you a good IPA.

    Stainless Herms Coil Released

Nice work mate... I'm going to have to drop in one day for a look. So how many pms did you get from people asking who and how much to make one of those enclosures? Just saying, cause I could be persuaded into procuring one.

    American Amber Ale Recipe

Never ended up using the GP in the amber. I just tweaked it too far with bits and pieces I had at hand. Added biscuit, Munich and some wheat. Should never have done it. However, GP and 10% dark crystal would be great in my opinion. Just some nice undertones of nuttiness under the caramel.

    American Amber Ale Recipe

Caraaroma is a good sub for spec b and great in an amber where you want those caramel notes to come through. With what you've got, I'd just go; 80% ale 15% Munich 5% caraaroma I got away with 10% dark crystal because I upped the bitterness to a little over 50Ibu. I think if you want the...

    American Amber Ale Recipe

Here's some recent chatter about American Ambers... One of my favourite styles. A good strategy to take with these is to keep thing's simple. The one I mention in the above link is very simple and turned out great. On the rebrew I tweaked it with complexity and haven't enjoyed the results...

First Ag - Little Creatures Pale Ale

Yeah I concur... no waste chilling water. Just recirc back into the pool. Guilt free chilling. That's what I'd do if I had a pool.

    Stainless Herms Coil Released

Received my coil yesterday. Nice little unit. Will be picking up a BigW kettle today for trialling. Will just plonk the coil in and sit the whole lot in a bucket for spillage protection and safety... Or may even splurge on a small SS pot to sit it in (for bling's sake) Maybe do a trail run this...

    Mashing At Room Temperature

100% concur. I think I'll give it a shot and see how it goes. Something nice simple should be a good idea and note the results. Slightly :icon_offtopic: All this is just in an attempt to be more hands off during the brewday. It'd be so nice to come home from work after doughing in on my way...

    Double Double Brew Day

Done this a few times myself. With my double batch rig I can push out 80L in a little over 6 hours. Dough in about 7.30 and all finished with 4 cubes at 2pm. Lovely having 2 cubes of 2 different wort sitting and waiting. If I were to attend to my kettle to watch for boil overs, I could...

    Aurora (Super Styrian)

Just threw 30g of aurora in a cube of ESB with EKG last night, smelt very nice. Looking forward to experiencing what the profile is like. Will dry hop with another 30 also.
