    Odd fermentation... Advice

Hey guys I was trying out a new IPA recipe and decided to do a smaller batch of about 14 to 15L. In my mind my small fermenter was 20L but when I went to transfer to it I realised it was only 15L! I had a slurry of US05 from a previous brew and I created a small starter just to check it was ok...

    Anyone Using Brewfather?

So I've been trialing Brewfather the last few weeks for a couple of brews alongside my copy of Beersmith. I've found Brewfather to be really good software, a great implementation and very easy to use. Having it available and easy to use on everything from a laptop to a mobile phone and it all...

My Keg Setup - need a review

I can't fit another keg in, I can fit a 2.6Kg gas bottle as it'll be sitting on the step above the compressor. Other reason to have it out the way is I have a dog and don't want it grabbing at the bottle or any bits and pieces connected to it. Cleaner if I have it all hidden away in the fridge.

My Keg Setup - need a review

Why do you suggest the CO2 goes outside the fridge? Re the manifold - don't I need something to take the gas from the cylinder into two separate kegs, hence a splitter/manifold?

My Keg Setup - need a review

Thanks for the comments/suggestions on the manifold, yes makes sense with the control for each individual gas line.

My Keg Setup - need a review

Thanks for the replies. My question here is a genuine one ie, I don’t mean it to sound like I’m being sarcastic but why would I spend $38 on this gas manifold when I can get a tee section for a few dollars and the check valve I originally suggested for $10? It’s also available on Keg King and in...

My Keg Setup - need a review

Hi I've finally had enough of bottling so I've got a small fridge which can fit two kegs and a CO2 cylinder in it and I'm going to set them up. I've done a bit of reading in terms of what I need and the setup etc but I would like others to give my potential setup the once over to make sure I'm...

'at the start of the run-off'

Yes, unless you have lots of the choc malt I wouldn't worry, just mash it from the start with the rest.

    Live Grasshopper in fermenter.

I would have kept it to see if it really was infected. Having said that, it's easy to say when you weren't the one seeing a weird creature crawl out your tap! I can't for the life of me see how it got in there in the first place.

    Anyone Using Brewfather?

I had a brief look at Wort... It looked more like a loose collection of brewing calc tools rather than proper integrated brewing software

    Anyone Using Brewfather?

It can be used ‘for free’ yes but you can’t import/export and you can only have 10 recipes so not practical long term.

    Anyone Using Brewfather?

How were you able to import a recipe? You need premium - have you already bought it? I’ve been using it a bit as well recently. My thoughts are: - It is very easy to use and intuitive - The main thing I like is the web based aspect that allows me to tinker with recipes whether I’m at home, at...

    Water additions?

Bicarb does get a mention CACO3 at 23 PPM so the only ones missing are sodium which isn't that important as the sulphates but as I said, you'd just have to assume this one as being low. My water in Mel south East has low sulphates of about 8 PPM so go with that as a start

    Water additions?

The info is there from p14 onwards ; Mg = 19 PPM CA = 24 PPM PH = 7.4 CL = <5 PPM Hardness = 23 PPM I don't see anything in there on sodium or sulfates which seems a bit odd. Given the water in VIC is generally soft and low in mineral content you might have to assume this is also low at say <10 PPM

    Another Newbie...

Welcome Pete, I highly recommend buying the John Palmer book How To Brew. Covers everything from the very basics right through in detail to all grain and more.

BeerSmith 3 - worth the upgrade?

.. "plenty more out there that do more"... Like what? I agree that it is beta software with bugs and immature features and so to ask for 20 USD a year for that is too much in my view.
