what venues can't be missed in melbourne

If you like German beer and food try the Munich Beirhaus at South Wharf. You could go to the Belgian Beer Café at Southbank, walk along the Yarra for about 10 mins and then have a Dunkel at the Munich Beirhaus. Very nice on a sunny day.

    Whats In The Glass (commercial)

Brakspear Triple. 6.7%ABV Crystal, black and Pale malts. Goldings, Styrian and Cascade Hops. On the bottle it says that it has Cascade added during fermentation but the aroma is all about malt. Has a lovely malty, dry finish. Would happily drink another one.

Gravity Readings – what the hell am I doing wrong!

When I take a pre boil sample to check the gravity, I give the kettle a bit of a stir. I have found that during sparging there appears to be stratification or layers of different gravity and temperature throughout the kettle. I found if I give the kettle a stir it mixes up the layers and I get a...

    Whats In The Glass (commercial)

Sam Smiths "Yorkshire Stingo". 8% ABV, aged in oak casks and matured for over a year. Has a very rich toffee, rummy taste. The alcohol stands out. Aroma smells of malt and alcohol. Very nice, but at twice the price of Sam Smiths Old Brewery Pale Ale, I think I would prefer two bottles of the...

    Whats In The Glass

Drinking slcmorro's Dark IPA on a wheat yeast, one of the beers in a Ballarat swap we had a couple of weeks ago. Very refreshing.

    Two Birds Bantam IPA

Had the Bantam on tap at Beer Deluxe a couple of weeks ago. Really enjoyed it and there was definitely no onions or garlic in the aroma or flavour. Would happily drink it again.

    Whats In The Glass

Quite right, the post doesn't state that I've had plenty of stouts. It states that this is the first American stout that I have brewed or drank. No, I'm not planning to go Nitro.

Reread the post Pratty1. I've had plenty of stouts but never an American Stout.

    Whats In The Glass

American Stout. Never brewed one or drank one before today. Even though its bittered to 70 IBU's its sweet in the mid pallate and then finishes bitter. Could probably do with a bit more roast. Nice mouth feel. The recipe came from "Brewing Classic Styles". Also it's the first time I have used my...

Kettle water measurement - how to

I measured out the volume in my kettle in two litre increments then engraved the markings on the inside of the kettle. No need for my measuring stick anymore. Got the idea from Wolfy who used to post here.
