@Ballaratguy Yes you could fix the trubtrapper under the false bottom so that when you dropped it in it would be positioned nicely and seat well on the bottom. You could have the helix in there as well.

    GUTEN

@FarsideOfCrazy I'm using a home made trubtrapper to catch the whirlpool hops, it catches a lot of the break as well, but not all of it. I did try the helix coil just laying in the bottom as a ring ( joining it to itself was better than with the T piece it had a flusher fit ). I've just bought...

back it off to about 800w if you are using the condenser lid on the Guten 70.

    Airlocks VS pressure relief valves

    GUTEN

@Grok Good advice, I wanted my maths checked, thanks for confirming I haven't forgotten it all. I think that jayvan90 has only 2500 watts on his Guten, but not totally sure. I've got some fairly heavy duty PC chip heatsinks with inbuilt fans so I think come the day I'll see if I can fit that...

I've just been looking on the smartpid website. Do you think it can cope with a 3000w element?

    GUTEN

Thanks @Jayvan90 Didn't realise the PID controlled the pump as well, just on or off for pump or rate as well? Not sure how quick the coolossus is, but our ground water is about 16 celsius and so I just use the water for washing brew kit or on the garden. I just attached my half inch ball lock...

    GUTEN

Ahh that's nice work. Guess I'd need a pretty solid relay for the Guten 70. Might wait till nearer christmas before going on the PID route. My whirlpool a little shorter and more parallel to the kettle edge than yours and just using the inbuilt pump, which is pretty powerful on the 70, I...

    GUTEN

Did you fit the smartPID? and / or who did you source it from or the alternative? How do you find it effects the temperature control? I thought I done all the Guten upgrades I wanted but now I'm thinking? Just fitted three way tap in main up pipe and swapped out the tap for a half inch ball...

    Beer font lights

Looks like they both need taking apart fully and new pipes etc. I'd just replace the lighting with some led's get them from jaycar and a transformer, one transformer to run both will be fine. Could even run them off rechargable batteries or 5 V usb. Mains power and water ( you could get a leak...

    Airlocks VS pressure relief valves

They have a recommendation I just can't remember what it is. Brain fade.

    Nano vs Brewzilla or Guten

Key to it now is don't look at any more equipment, buy a book on brewing and don't look on the internet and you will be eternally satisfied with your choice.

    Airlocks VS pressure relief valves

I did read somewhere about they recommend not cleaning it with a certain product as it makes it brittle , search the US forum for that info or contact the manufacuter if it's not in the instructions.

    Fermenters

Have you made a shelf with a hole in it that fits the fermentasaurus, that saves a lot of space in the fridge. With that you might be able to fit other fermenter in as well. But agreed, it's choices and choices.

    Fermentation stalled

Just to reassure you last ale started at 16 and then raised to 19 and after 3 days moved it back to the cool again to drop some of the yeast so that it could do final condition in the cask. Beer can ferment really fast and kveik even faster.

    Airlocks VS pressure relief valves

WHat a bargain and it comes with a beer or cider kit and jacket. Could just use the beer kit for making starter and you'd be in profit. Looks like it will take an airlock, the valve it mentions is probably like the valve on some brew in a bag kits which is silicone with a little slit in it. When...

    Fermenters

Agreed, water is heavy and beer is heavier. Less lifting fermenters and more lifting glasses.

    fermentasaurus v1 o ring

I completely misread this post, sorry for all that info that doesn't help you @zipfly . I agree with @Grmblz the flat on oneside and lipped edge " washer " on the top of the FS 1 and 2 is a bit fiddly but does work well. Certainly I too can swap them between the types. In fact often put the one...

    Nano vs Brewzilla or Guten

@fridayfrothies Have just looked at the Homebrew network comparison. It's a bit apples and pears as the BZ 65 compared to 50 litre guten and from march 2019. The smaller gutens have been upgraded I think with the features in the 70 litre guten. The Guten is shinier ( hence Smoother ), the malt...

    Nano vs Brewzilla or Guten

@fridayfrothies Can't see a price for the guten 40 in aus. Can confirm the guten 70 does drain to empty because of the drain hole position and design. Can't say re the 40 or 50. CIP not an issue really with the smaller units, all of them you still have to get the hop residue and trub out before...
