First ever brew in the Fermentasaurus, do I cold crash and next steps

That's a very valid point re rotation. At the end of the day it's all about the drinking at the end.

First ever brew in the Fermentasaurus, do I cold crash and next steps

Thanks for the reply. It started at 1.040 and the guys at my LHBS reckon it will finish at around 1.012 and last night it was at 1.020. The yeast was a Safale US-05 as recommended by the guys at the shop. As for pressure I am not sure. I don't have it hooked up to gas and have no spunding...

First ever brew in the Fermentasaurus, do I cold crash and next steps

Hi all I have my first ever brew (New World Ale FWK) of any kind in my Fermentasaurus. It is day 4 of the ferment and where it started with OG of 1040 and is down now to 1020. The temperature has been sat at around 18.5C since I kicked it off thanks to the STC-1000. Its using a pressure kit...

Temperature and Fermentation control using Tilt Hydrometer??

Thanks for the reply. I suppose the question should be do I actually need to really bother about this level of complexity. I am interested in a Tilt and am likely to go down that path and I have a spare Pi or two so that's not an issue. Should I just stick with my STC-1000 for controlling...

Temperature and Fermentation control using Tilt Hydrometer??

Thanks. The new Tilt's have wireless in as well making them a touch more versatile than the original version. I will take a look at the links. If anyone else has an input would be keen to get your view.

Temperature and Fermentation control using Tilt Hydrometer??

Hi all I am looking at purchasing a Tilt hydrometer and am wondering whether anybody knows if it is possible to have the unit control the temperature during the ferment. I know it can output the current temperature of the brew so you can see what the temperature is doing, but I am keen to see...

    Erlenmeyer flask for gravity readings

Thanks all. I was going by what I read elsewhere about this method but it looks like it isn't the ideal approach to take. I am happy to discount the idea as it certainly seems that more people don't advocate doing it than do. Cheers

    Erlenmeyer flask for gravity readings

Hi all I have seen some info elsewhere about taking the gravity readings with your hydrometer during fermentation. A few people said that they do away with the long, tall, thin vessels so as to avoid having to constantly sterilise and draw off wort when taking gravity readings. Instead they...

    Fv fridge temps

I have a query which I was hoping may have been answered in this thread but hasn't to date (and I haven't found a suitable answer elsewhere just yet). I am a new brewer, (by new I mean I am reading up loads and have gathered most of my kit ready to do my first BIAB) and I have picked up a...

    10 litre no-chill cubes?

Could you elaborate a bit more on that.....I am branching into this for the first time and so am slowly gathering my kit ready for my first brew. Also do you have taps in your cubes or taps out? I am thinking obviously taps in as that will make it easier for dispensing (although I did get what...

    10 litre no-chill cubes?

Hi all, Old'ish thread but I have read through it and used the information in it to purchase 2 BMW 10L Red lid cans from Bunnings. The ones I got do not have taps in them but I have purchased 2 of the taps that will work with them. One thing I wondered is if I do decide to use the taps. or...
