Kegged beer tastes MUCH better than bottled from the same batch

DJ Lethal; one of the beers listed was not primed and still tasted much worse than cask. Bribie; point taken. I can't think of a single exception to that. I'm glad I found casks as soon as I did as I think I would have given up by now judging by the taste of the bottled stuff I've produced -...

Kegged beer tastes MUCH better than bottled from the same batch

I agree - I grew up drinking John Smiths, Stones and Tetley - all very ordinary out the tin & not that great out of a tap.. Maybe the decent bottled beers have some new process during bottling, like topping up with Co2? Stuff like Hook Norton, and Badger beers taste great out of the bottle so...

Kegged beer tastes MUCH better than bottled from the same batch

The one gravity I tried was nice - tasted great, but not really fizzy. I doubt that's really possible with a water container. Held a head ok though.

Kegged beer tastes MUCH better than bottled from the same batch

I thought keg & cask were mostly interchangeable terms? Lord Raja - go for it, I'm blown away by my beer - tastes just like hand pulled cask ale, and cost me less than $100 for three bags and pump. I'm using these http://www.kathmandu.com.au/collapsible-water-container.html They work great...

Kegged beer tastes MUCH better than bottled from the same batch

I've been putting my beer in 20l collapsible water containers and serving both with beer pump and gravity and they taste great - at least as good as commercial in my opinion. From the same batches I've been bottling a few - the first and last bits out the fermenter. The last two have shown the...

    website deals of the day

No smell at all from the kathmandu ones nor the Coleman one I got. Beers taste fine. The Kathmandu one seems better made and the plastic has less give. Better quality tap too. Not sure I'd trust the cheapest ones personally.

er, yuck! - how long does a steeped grain wort last in the fridg

Thanks guys. I'll do as NewtownClown says and taste before reboiling. I'd start again, only crushing the grain myself took a while. The fermenter is getting retired. It's cheap to buy a new one, and I can find some use for it. I don't want to be wondering if an off flavour is from something...

er, yuck! - how long does a steeped grain wort last in the fridg

Well I've got it full of Di-San now. If it's odor free tomorrow I might use it. The wort is steeped and sparged and I'll put it in the fridge over night, and I'll use it tomorrow, either in a brand spanker or the old cockroach one. Thanks for the help.

er, yuck! - how long does a steeped grain wort last in the fridg

You think? What are the chances of cockroach stench getting into the plastic? This is a primary fermenter - one of those water jerry cans from super cheap bunnings.

er, yuck! - how long does a steeped grain wort last in the fridg

Just 30 minutes through steeping 250g of grains for a DSGA. I went to sanitise my jerry can which had a bit of water in the bottom and there was a large cockroach floating in it! The whole things just stinks! The cover I put on one of the spouts fell off and I just thought - yeah yeah I'm...

First brew advice - Morgans amber ale + what?

Ok - done temperature readings last night and this morning - the coolest part of the house is still 26c first thing this morning. I'm going to take wereprawns advice and try a big Eskie, and towels & ice packs - great idea of using frozen drinks bottles as I can rotate regularly and make sure...

First brew advice - Morgans amber ale + what?

Great, thanks guys. I got a thermometer now so will take readings around the house to find temperature ranges.

First brew advice - Morgans amber ale + what?

I'm not sure as I've not got a themometer yet - should get one this week, so I'll reply. It gets pretty hot though. House is comfortable without aircon on most of the time, and a side bathroom doesn't get any sun at all. I'll buy and convert a fridge for later brews, but not for this one.
