    Whats In The Glass

Ah public holidays! Just poured a schooner of Irish red. Smackpack swollen, starter wort boiling on the stove and an American brown boiling downstairs in the urn.

    Whats In The Glass

3 minute bitter: First English beer I've made that hasn't been woeful. Actually quite possibly my best beer to date!

    Mesh plate for BIAB

You could do some pretty awesome high gravity brews with a brew bag and your current pot. I always struggle with high gravity brews in the urn as it's only 40l so the efficiency always drops more than I'd like, having 56l capacity should make that less of an issue even if you need a longer boil...

    Commercial Fridge: Yes or No?

I vote for taps through the glass!

    Mesh plate for BIAB

Yep, would've been 80% if I'd used my jerry cube rather than my cube cube as I would've collected an extra litre. Currently have beersmith set up for 70% efficiency, but might need to change that soon as I can't remember the last time I got less than about 73%

    Commercial Fridge: Yes or No?

@mtb Your Mrs must hate you so much. How do you sneak all these purchases in?

    Online beer swap.

****, you bubble wrap them? I've just been putting them in the satchel and folding it over so it seals tight, no other packaging... I've never lost any either and I'd be over the 10 satchel mark.

    Recommended stir plate for starters

Could also use one of those adjustable voltage power supplies as a speed controller. I'm using 12v, and the fan goes like the clappers at full whack.

    Recommended stir plate for starters

I'll second this, I never get anywhere near top speed on my DIY job. I used the same speed controller as @Matplat

    Online beer swap.

3kg express satchel is $15.65, 1kg $10.85. I always send 3 bottles to ease the postage pain.

    Online beer swap.

I regularly send 3 x 750ml pet bottles in 3kg express satchels down to Sydney from Brisbane. Never had postage ruin the beers (I'm bottling using counter pressure and a carb cap) A swap forum is an awesome idea IMO.

    5 Star Weldless Elements

Bump! I'm also in the market for a couple of 2400w weldless elements and was wondering if anyone had used both the Five Star and the 2400w elements from OBS - as they're the 2 kits on my shortlist. The Five Star certainly looks like the more professional set up, however I'm wondering if...

Hi - homebrewer moving to Australia

If you need any motivation to brew head to your local and smash a few VBs then (after you finish throwing up) go to a quality bottle shop and cry at the prices of anything that's better than ****. If that won't get you starting the next bulk buy, nothing will.

    Biofine

This still took ages to clear. It is clear as now, but to be honest I think gelatine works better, quicker and is a hell of a lot cheaper. Still have 100ml left so my opinion may change.

    Cutting keg with sparkling water

This turned out pretty well, just threw about 1l of just boiled water into the keg and sealed it up. Certainly cut through some of the sweet finish, still not as dry as I'd like but a hell of a lot better than it was.

    HARD! Lemonade

That's going on the to brew list. Cheers.
