Don't use PVC. It's not stable at high temperatures and is compounded from some pretty toxic chemicals...

I'm thinking the idea has merit - with the obvious caveat: The mashout is done properly before the lid is put on the kettle & collected wort & you boil it first thing the next morning... Could get one going Friday night after Junior has been put in his cot and then after feeding him the next...

Just used this technique to farm yeast for the first time. The results look promising. Like most things zymurgical I can't believe I've put it off so long!

Got it off... Stuck it in the freezer for a while then with the post hex-head locked in a vice & quick-release pulled back and taped open: bearings tapped to make sure they are free then worked it with a punch. A few big hits and the disconnect flew across the workshop... gave it a quick rub...
