Continuing Rant Thread - Get it Off Ya Chest here

Ahhh... back in the good old days. 12km to school on a pushy for us (single speed), at -6 degrees in winter. By the time we got to school, if we had just showered - our hair was covered in ice. No helmets of course. The old man reckoned he was driving the tractor by the age of 8, had his two...

    2018 Hop Plantations

Fair enough, I've had to spray the little buggers with vigour this year. They took to the tettnang especially.... In general I don't like spraying things, but War is War.

Did you check for mites? Mite damage looks a bit like the leaves are dying off. Scroll down to image 3 here: https://www.researchgate.net/publication/270387946_Challenges_and_Opportunities_for_Organic_Hop_Production_in_the_United_States/figures?lo=1

    Est. dates, taking the piss.

An interesting article about how many NZ breweries are taking the piss with est. dates. Relates to the 'clearer labelling' thread: https://thebottleneck.net/2015/10/28/who-is-new-zealands-oldest-craft-brewery-draft-4/

With many 'foreign' beers now brewed in Australia, is it time for clearer labels?

It's happening with food as of July 2018, why not beer: http://www.foodlabels.industry.gov.au/ What also irks me is companies using historic dates for beers for which they have no actual link. 'Emersons 1812 Pale Ale" for example. To my knowledge Emerson's was founded in the 1990's, how can...

Yes I should affix some white material around the outside. Wish it was my garden too, just a vacant plot at work. ..

Some hop leaves are brown, dry

My Tettnang also had a bad infestation of mites (seemed to be more susceptible than other varieties) - I had to cut off the early bines and let the new growth come through.

The True/er/est/ish History of the Indian PAle Ale

A beer for the Clerks. The lads out chasing Holkar demanded something stronger I'll warrant.

The True/er/est/ish History of the Indian PAle Ale

With quarter million or more serving and /or retiring company men in the mid 1800s it was essentially a marketing ploy. Many of those guys with a taste for freedom headed out to the colonies.

The True/er/est/ish History of the Indian PAle Ale

My 4th Great grandad was a soldier (Captain) with HEIC (hon. East India Company) 1799-1811 served in Bengal and Java - kicked the Dutch out. He was also a brewer (his dad was a hopfactor/ victualler in Cardiff 1780's).... Anyway, when we came out to the colonies in the 1840's we brewed Stout...

Continuing Rant Thread - Get it Off Ya Chest here

Two days to go. So far I've survived an interstate flight with baby, a raging flu, 3 Christmas parties, 6 momma catchup groups, a birthday party and 10 days of bickering inlaws. I am looking forward to getting home and seeing how my brew is getting on.....

:thumbsdown:Whatever it was (is) I do not recommended it. On the upside, I have now an excuse not to attend numerous mother group tea parties. On the downside. I cannot pick up my beautiful daughter for fear of infecting her.

Caught the lurgy from hell yesterday flying with wife and bubs to Perth for Xmas. 8 hours of feverish sweating /coughing interspersed by screaming baby. At least bubs lungs are working well.

Continuing Rant Thread - Get it Off Ya Chest here

Missed our work Xmas party - it's designed for the institutionalised permanents who are biding time until retirement. Most of them still on the old super scheme where they get 2/3 of finishing salary for the rest of their life. The rest of us temps and casuals are out in the fields to doing the...
