    KK 19L Kegs or AEB

    +1 on the KK's

Switching back to bottling from kegs

I can't agree with this enough. You can get 9.5L Kegs from KK that would be great for small batches. I currently use one for soda water. Like others have said, the main thing that drives people away from bottling is the cleaning and storage of all those bottles. Not to mention the...

Keg King ROBOBREW 35L SINGLE VESSEL BREWERY

I was using the Grainfather online calculator for mash and sparge water which was telling me to add only around 15-16L to mash. I think If I added around 20L this would solve the problem of running dry in the main kettle. But the rice hulls make it run so much smoother anyway.

Keg King ROBOBREW 35L SINGLE VESSEL BREWERY

I generally will pour in 2L at a time. But what I'm finding without the rice husks is that the grains will soak all of this up and hold it. Before I even got to that point though, I was having trouble with recirculating the wort as it would all end up in the malt pipe and come close to going...

Keg King ROBOBREW 35L SINGLE VESSEL BREWERY

I can't comment on the grain crush as I buy mine pre-cracked. Rice hulls worked really well to reduce the stuck mash/sparge. I just added 500gms. I guess that doesn't help with efficiency though.

Is there a Grainfather profile on Brewmate? I've heard the settings are very similar.

Keg King ROBOBREW 35L SINGLE VESSEL BREWERY

Someone in this thread had the idea of using an Ikea trivet for the malt pipe. I'm going to be doing this. Seems much easier than the fiddly thing that comes with the unit.

The recirc pump and hose mod is well worth it but you'll need to consider two factors: 1. You will want to regulate the flow with a ball valve on the outlet of the pump NOT on the ball valve from the kettle. That way the pump can happily chug along with full supply of wort and you can still...

Keg King ROBOBREW 35L SINGLE VESSEL BREWERY

Just did my 3rd brew on the Robo yesterday. I did a Dr S Golden Ale as well. I put about 200g of rice hulls in the mash to go with the grain and found that this greatly improved the mash re circulation using the pump. This also helped with the sparge and it drained much better and needed next...

    Font Fan run time ?

I'm about to piggyback mine off the fan inside my Keg King so that it only runs when the compressor is running. Previously I had been only running when serving for a while, then switching off when everyone is done. You could run it 24/7 as it should draw very low power. I don't think there...

Keg King ROBOBREW 35L SINGLE VESSEL BREWERY

If you read further up the the page, the Grainfather profile appears to be suitable for the Robobrew as the dimensions/specs are very similar. I've used both elements for the duration of the boil on each of my first two brews, just the 500W for mash temp control. The recirc pump and hose mod...

    Help with Mash/Sparge Volume Calculations

Actually, as the Grainfather and Robo brew are similar systems I looked up their online calculators. This is what theirs comes up with: Mash & Sparge Water: Batch Volume (L): 23 Grain Bill Weight (kg): 5.57 Mash Water (L): 18.54 Sparge Water (L): 13.92 Looks like they take into...

So I should add this into my sparge water amount right? Roughly 5.5L more.

    Help with Mash/Sparge Volume Calculations

Hi All I'm attempting my second brew on the new Keg King Robo Brew and I think I messed up my mash and sparge water calculations last time coming up a little short on fermenter volume. Can someone help me with my calculations on the following? Batch Volume - 23ltrs in the fermenter Total...

First AG BIAB Brew Day Results

Just make sure the hops aren't in there really any longer than 4 days. Galaxy can produce a very distinct grassy flavour if left in there too long.

Keg King ROBOBREW 35L SINGLE VESSEL BREWERY

I think the Robo Brew will probably never really compare to the Grainfather in terms of simplicity of setup, and set and forget operation. I've never used a Grainfather, but they really do look like a much easier option. All the thinking and planning has been done for you. But at roughly...

    Fridge or Freezer?

Most times the collar is added to allow taps to be installed on the front of the freezer without cutting any holes in the freezer itself. It also puts the taps at a better pouring position. The collar can be made out of lacquered ply, painted fancy colours or even blackboard paint so that you...

First AG BIAB Brew Day Results

+1 on the fridge with temp control (ie STC-1000). This was the single biggest factor in the improvement of my beer. Using some sort of temperature control as you are doing now is obviously better than just sitting it in your garage (as I was doing), but the ability to simply set and forget...

Keg King ROBOBREW 35L SINGLE VESSEL BREWERY

What is the thought process on recirculating pumps? Coming from extract brewing I'm fairly new to this. My understanding so far is that: You can feed a magnetic drive pump off the outlet of the Robo Brew and pump wort back to the top rather than doing it with a jug. All you would need is a...

Keg King ROBOBREW 35L SINGLE VESSEL BREWERY

So I picked up a Robobrew on Saturday morning and just finished my very first all grain brew. It all went very well, and I was really impressed with this unit. All up my total brew time was just under 4.5hrs but I was really taking my time and making sure I got everything right so I'm pretty...
