    Lamington Imperial Stout

I've mentioned this in other threads, but - some people can't taste coconut in beer. I've got a coconut porter, which I dry-nutted for 4 days (toasted, recipe says 100g) To me it screams coconut, but until l I tell Mrs Wibble what beer it is, she can't taste the coconut at all. I recently read...

How much smoked malt to add?

I've made this a number of times, it's the standard house porter. It's reasonably smokey, but no rauchbier. I found the recipe years ago, and never recorded the original author. Recipe Specifications -------------------------- Boil Size: 31.09 l Post Boil Volume: 26.82 l Batch Size...

    May/June meet

I'm considering going to GABS, but geeze, it's in *Sydney*. I emailed them about the ticket pricing. You can buy all your "currency" at the event, and that way you save a small amount because it's not going through the ticketting supplier. -kt

    Growing Barley for brewing

My aunt's father always said you can plant out a pig-pen by feeding the grain to the pigs. Supposedly some of it passes right though, and then germinates in the scat. It might also be an old-husband's tale too.

KK - 'Fermentasaurus' conical PET fermenter

So I'm about to do my 2nd batch - do I add the bulb to the bottom (and open) right from the start, or open the valve once when you want to dump ? or something else? EDIT: Just found the instructions. One opens the valve *after* fermentation. (doh!) While I'm wasting everyone's time: the KK...

    May/June meet

OK, What IS GABS? Ah - https://www.gabsfestival.com/sydney-event-info/ Still doesn't say what it is. Oh, it has "currency" ... ^_^ And Olympic Park, it's in the geographic heart of Sydney, didn't you know. (That's like how Hornsby is in the north-north-north-west heart of Sydney.)...

    Arduino.cc Delivery Leadtime?

I use only clone/knockoff boards. Although Arduino is an open design, so maybe "knockoff" is a bit harsh. My favourite place to buy Arduino stuff from in Australia is Core Electronics. I've been buying gear from them for years, and Graham does free activities for kids in the skool holidays...

    Planning a new brew rig

I've made a 3V HERMS ~150 litre system using Keg King 185 litre pots. I started it with the kettle, which I used for about a year before getting the HLT and Mash tun. It took me another 6 months to finally finish the HX and control system. Biggest batch I've done is a 60 litres of 5% pale ale...

Big Brother is now Watching You

There's a lot of information in metadata. Here's some light reading: http://www.abc.net.au/news/2015-08-24/metadata-what-you-found-will-ockenden/6703626 . EDIT: Ok this is phone meta-data, but it's much the same. The reason they only want metadata, is because that's all that's needed to know...

    Show us your brewrig

Mofox1 - can you please give me some details on your sparge ring, did you make it yourself ? EDIT: Ah I found it in another thread. SS Brewtech re-circulating manifold. Is there an AU supplier? EDIT2: yes AU supplier - https://www.newerabrewing.com.au/ss-brewtech-recirc-manifold/ (currently...

    Where is the stout head?

I made an oatmeal stout recently, it turned out quite nice with lots of head. I used porridge oats, which I cooked on the stove until they were a goopy, then threw into the mash. The porridge made up about 17% of the grist. Some things I've read say you can just mash rolled ingredients, since...

    May/June meet

Is that the Foghorn at Erina? I thought we were meeting at Ourimbah/Fountaindale next time? I think it's good that you organise stuff. I never really can commit to any sort of date, as I'm not sure what's happening this weekend, let alone in 3/4 weeks. One thing I would like to do is a bus...

Yet another Arduino Based Brewing controller

With a POTentiometer you wire it to an analogue input line. Performing an analogRead() against that pin will give you a number 0-1023. This can then be mapped to whatever you like. So about the 4-line LCD. I'm not trying to talk you out of it or anything, but ... I've used a bunch of...
