    Galaxy hops?

I tasted my 2 nectaron hopped beers this morning and I can say it is not close to galaxy, maybe half as intense, not unpleasant but not a substitute for galaxy

I've just brewed a couple of beers with nectaron which is similar to galaxy, might be easier to get locally

    Floating dip tube optimisation

You can buy pressure fermenters with floating dip tubes in various capacities, I have one that holds 35 L and one that holds 30, these are capable of fermenting and lagering 20+ L, you can also do closed transfers from them to your kegs if you want to reduce oxygen pick up

    Hop schedule for English Bitter

The tin is already bittered so you only need to add hops for flavor and aroma, English bitter is not as hoppy as American pale ale so to make something authentic maybe 5g with 20 mins to end of boil, 10g at end of boil/whirlpool and 15g as a dry hop towards the end of fermentation or at cold...

Why are qantas still so ****?

Like all companies and governments nowadays, they spend more money telling us how good they are and less money giving good service, it's the way of the world I think

Need to transfer without lifting fv

You can do it with gas if you have the correct hoses and fittings, just like a keg to keg transfer. you just need a small pressure difference to do this, if you put the spunding valve (you might need to reduce the pressure setting slightly) on the keg recieving the beer, connect you CO2 to the...

What To Do With An English Bitter

I love English bitter, was weaned on the stuff back in the UK, I like it well attenuated so it's dry and bitter, if you want sweet beer, bitter is not for you. Dry wheat malt extract could be added if it's still fermenting which might be good, and a dry hop, I recommend fuggles.

    Saving Bottle Caps

Patent it Paddy, it's brilliant, green bottle opener that allows you to re-use/recycle bottle tops, you should get a government grant to make it

Induction brewing... anyone doing it? What induction element do you use.

I have an Aldi induction cooking plate, in the instructions it says only magnetic stainless steel is suitable, as you have seen, there is magnetic and non-magnetic stainless steel, regular steel, like enameled pans are made from and cast iron are magnetic so good too. Looks like the base of your...

Pacific ale/ lager recipes- view from the other side of the ocean

To lagers, I've never put wheat in a lager or crystal malts, i once put Oats in one and have a big note against it to never put oats in a lager. My very first AG lager was an NZ style that was Aussie pilsner malt with 25% flaked rice, hopped with Pacifica. I like a good bit of hop at 20 -30...

Pacific ale/ lager recipes- view from the other side of the ocean

I have bittered with Galaxy too and don't have any notes to say it was harsh but in an IPA you expect some bitterness. In the Pacific ales I have done I have used Galaxy at 15 minutes for bittering but currently Im using 2g as first wort hop because I like some hops in from the beginning, I...

Pacific ale/ lager recipes- view from the other side of the ocean

I think S&W Pacific ale is the standard to aim for. It is a summer semi-sesionable ale, highly attenuated, so wheat helps add some body/mouthfeel with fruity dry hop. 30% wheat malt seems to be about right. I think Cascade for the bittering addition is a good idea as Galaxy can be very harsh...
