    Cooper's "New Style" Fermenters

But not repeatedly on only 2 out of 6 FVs. If all other aspects of my preparations, equipment and procedures are common to 6 FVs, and the problem of infection repeatedly occurs only with the 2 in question, it is clear that the problem is those FVs. If I have an infection on a spoon, or a...

    Cooper's "New Style" Fermenters

OK, so I've ordered 2 new taps and they're on the way. However, after reading this yet again (just to check my volumes) I would still have to ask where is this infection coming from? Considering I've now used this as well as StellarSan, how can I still be getting infections in only these 2...

Re-using yeast that's been sitting in trub for almost a week yet tempretures have been high

Jarrynpitts, you asked me "Why?" This is why I wouldn't, but it's up to you. I regularly re-use yeast. Harvest, wash, refrigerate, grow starters etc, or just make a new brew immediately on the yeast bed of a finished batch. I've done the Cooper's Real Ale yeast harvest from 6 stubbies as...

Re-using yeast that's been sitting in trub for almost a week yet tempretures have been high

OK. Do it then! It would appear to me that you answered your own question when you wrote the topic of the thread. However, by all means, go ahead and use yeast that has been sitting in trub for a week in temperature fluctuations including hot days. Be sure to let us know how it turns out.

    Cooper's "New Style" Fermenters

Disappointment, but not all bad (still hopeful, maybe). If you had told me that the cleaning and sanitisation I put these 2 FVs through wouldn't work, I wouldn't have believed you. Well, actually, some of you did tell me and I didn't believe you. Go on, say it. I told you so! Today is day 8...

Ginger Beer Recipe - Scratch Brew No Kit

I have no objection to work or performing required processes, and I've done it with varying degrees of success / failure. Lactose I found to be ok, but not exactly what I'm after either. I couldn't say whether or not I use chemical goop until I understand your definition of same. As I said...

Ginger Beer Recipe - Scratch Brew No Kit

Hi Chappo! Since the post just under your OP includes the use of a kit GB, I'd hardly call that a "from Scratch" contribution, but you seemed ok with that back then. Would we be correct in assuming your reference to manufactured goop is in relation to artificial sweeteners and flavouring...

    Maximum Weevil percentage ?

The little buggers swim, or float to the surface when soaked in water. They are pretty easy to scoop off the top with a stainless-steel sieve. It would be ok to mash and ferment out for a whiskey, not that I'd condone any such activity. However, mixing it with equal quantity of milled corn...

Mate, I appreciate your generosity, but I'll give it a miss. Thanks anyway. It's a bit too far to make a special trip.

    Water report for rainwater, anyone??

Hmmmm!! I'm not sure if someone tasting my beer and drawing that conclusion would be a compliment or not. I lived in Newcastle for a while and remember at least one questionable experience there at the time. I'll have to think about it for a bit and maybe do some of my own research and taste...

    Free brewing equipment!

I'm a taker if it's still available mate. Bummer it wasn't posted Friday as I was in Parramatatta (well Westmead actually). Bit of a drive for me but I can work on it this week if your timing fits in with mine. Have you got empty bottles to swap for full ones. I don't really want to lose my...

    Cooper's "New Style" Fermenters

Apologies for going AWOL. I have just yesterday put 2 cheap tins of WW Home Brand in these 2 FV's. I will inform of the outcome.

    Cooper's "New Style" Fermenters

I make 2 brews at a time and stagger them so I don't have to bottle huge amounts in one go. I also make 2 at a time for a mate who can't do it himself. This can see 6 FVs on the go at the same time, but sometimes there are only 2. I also make Apple Cider and Ginger Beer so they aren't always...

Thank you 2 crows. I have it. I'll use it. I'll get more when I run out. Buy it at your local hydroponic shop if it's cheaper than other places.

    Cooper's "New Style" Fermenters

Yep. I'm still not understanding how you use 96% H3PO4. Do you use gloves and wipe it all over and immersion soak small parts, or do you dilute it? What dilution ratio? I have Hy-Gen pH Down, which is 85% food grade orthophosphoric acid. Even when I did originally use the KK, I never used to...
