Is My Gas Burner Strong Enough?

Not really. That's the level of use I used to get until i read a post about some bloke moving his mongoliana bit closer. Now I can get 4 double batches from a single bottle of gas, sometimes four and a half. Now I jut gotta find a cheap source of gas.

    Wine Smell?

I've tasted other peoples knk beers and they usually have a wine taste. An ag i did once had a winey kind of flavour, wasn't fermented high, i put it down to a light infection and chemo-nuked my kit. I don't have heaps of experience with infections, but apparently they sometimes only infect...

    Helium In Place Of Co2

Helium is the least soluble gas, so I doubt it would "carb" your beer at all, would be fine for pushing out beer I imagine. I wouldn't do it, the gas probably isn't 100% helium

    Non Lager Yeast For Grolsch

if it were me i'd get a dead fridge from the tip and put it outside. This will insulate the fermenter/s from the cool nights and kee the temps a little more stable. If you can get a freezer that would be even better, more insulation. Put a sheet over it so the missus doesn't see it. :ph34r...

    Non Lager Yeast For Grolsch

I just had a look at tasmanias temperatures, it said your having a top of 13C and a low of 2C. Do you have a room thats not heated? If i was getting temps like that i'd be brewing lagers all the time! S189 is a cracker yeast, very clean and crisp with good flocculation.

    15l Stovetop Herms

what is the point of this? I'm sure this will work, but i can't see where your gains are going to be over a normal stovetop biab mash. You won't get an increase of wort clarity if you use a bag. You won't be saving money on equipment (the whole point of stove top mash) if you have to buy a pump...

The Joy Of Not Needing A Fridge

Buying a kegging system would be good, but i want to take advantage of the cooler temps now. If my garage sits at 22C that means my brew will be at 24C, which is too hot. I do have a fermenter fridge, but it won't hold 7 fermenters worth of beer! Also, there will be lots of variety in my brew...

The Joy Of Not Needing A Fridge

I was going to add this to the 300L of apa thread, however it went kinda back on topic so i thought i'd start this thread. This is a description of my system and whats' going on in the glass grenade brewery... I converted my double batch 3V rig to BIAB a while back now. I read about biab when...

    Low Tech Fermentation Temp Control

Consistent temp is pretty important. If you don't want to spend any money you should get yourself a dead fridge and put this in the coldest place in your house. The fridge will provide insulation and limit the temperature jumps. This will only work if you can find a place that is around 16-18C...

    10 Litre Coopers Real Ale

+1 to starters. You need malt extract for starters anyway. Plus once you got a whole cupboard full of tasty AG brews you won't be drinking any of your kits brews, especailly a kit brew that you don't like. OR you could take advantage of this. Make up 6L of coopers barley wine and let it age for...

    French Press Aroma Addition

I like to reuse my yeast cake so i don't thrw the hops into the fermenter. I think i get a better taste with throwing them in so i do the following... Add hops to the plunger. Add boiing water and let sit for 5 mins. Push the plunger down and add to the fermenter. Drain 1L of fermented wort...

Has Anyone Ever Added All Hot Break Into Fermeneter Andhow Did It Affe

it will be fine. Adding a hot break won't turn a good beer into a bad one. However a slightly better beer can be made by removing it. Its like water chemistry. If your water is reasonable and you don't add anything to it you will probably make a good beer, however if you change your water to...

    All Taste The Same.

I didn't make too many malt extract brews for this very reason. When i was doing extracts the ingredients available to me were quite basic. There's only so many ways that you can put together light malt, dark malt and dextrose. I played around with different yeasts and hops and this did...

    What Kit To Buy

The best kit i made was not really a kit but it was pretty easy (i went to full mash pretty early on). You will need 2.5kg light dried malt, .5kg dextrose 20g of pride of ringwood hops and a bottle of coopers pale ale (optional). to a pot add 5L of water and 500g of malt extract. Bring to the...

    Hop Advice

Are you talking about using galaxy for bittering? Because i really don't taste galaxy in this brew at all. I really enjoy galaxy but i find it gets a little harsh as a bittering addition, thats just me though. :icon_offtopic: I really like this beer on tap, however i am usually let down by...
