    Priming Amount

Hi, I'm ready to bottle a Cream Ale, but i'm not sure how much dextrose to add for priming. I would rather put it all in my primary fermenter and mix it with the beer, rather than add it to each individual bottle. I'm not sure how all this works, (if there's an unsafe amount to be careful for...

    Should I Modify Primary Fermenter?

but do you think that maybe when i transferred it into the carboy while it was still foaming, i left most of the active yeast behind in the bucket?

    Should I Modify Primary Fermenter?

Hi, i'm about to start a new brew, and am wondering how much it would affect things if i modified my primary fermenter bucket.. what i mean by this is that i'm using just a plain 30L bucket with a lid for my primary fermentation, then i transfer it to my carboy, but i've heard that putting a lid...

    No Krausen

    Okay, Thanks everyone!

    No Krausen

I am using a "Brew House - American Premium Lager" Kit, with Coopers yeast. (I misplaced the empty package, so i don't have the exact details of the yeast; all i remember is that it's coopers. The directions said to leave it in primary fermenter for 3-5 days, then rack it into secondary carboy...

    No Krausen

Original Gravity of 1.050. Left in primary fermenter for 4 days. On the 4th day (Monday) it was 1.018 when i first racked it into carboy. Then, after i added the 2 L of water, it went down to 1.013, and today i just checked it, and it was 1.012. It may have been sitting in the same spot on the...

    No Krausen

Hi, i'm not sure if this is a big concern, but i've had my beer in the carboy for 5 days now, and there isn't the slightest bit of krausen forming. In my previous brews i've done, i would notice tiny bubbles constantly floating towards the top, and krausen (foam) on the top, but this time...

    Watered Down?

yea, my bad. i just wasn't sure if it was necessary to have the beer a certain distance from the bung, because on my instructions, it said top up the carboy with water until it's approx. 2 inches from bottom of the bung. So it would have been fine to just leave it 2 liters short?

    Watered Down?

I just racked my beer into the carboy and noticed that there was approx. 2 L of space left in the carboy. I'm not sure why that happened this time.. usually when i transfer, the beer level is pretty close to the top of the carboy. So, i decided to add some water so that the beer would be sitting...

Different Original S.g. From What Instructions Say.

I'm using a sampling thief, and drawing the sample from the top of the wort. The instructions called for 8L of room temp water, and then when i poured the wort in, it brought it up to 23L. I followed these instructions exactly. So i'm not sure about the lack of water. One thing that was...

Different Original S.g. From What Instructions Say.

Hi, this is my second brew kit. It is a kit from The Brew House called Winterfest Ale. I followed all the instructions exactly how it said, but for some reason my gravity reading is off from what it calls for. It says the original gravity should be 1.040-1.050. But mine is reading at 1.061. I'm...

    Corn Sugar/normal Sugar

Hi, i am ready to bottle my first brew, and the instructions say to dissolve regular table sugar with boiling water, but i decided to use dextrose instead. (i've heard it's better). would i still do the exact same thing (make a syrup with sugar and boiling water)? or is there a different process...

    No Bubbling

Just checked my gravity, and it's sitting at about 1.015 So it's gone down a little bit. Then i just replaced what i took out with water... that's good, right?

    No Bubbling

yea, i'm using a glass fermenter, so therefore no tap. But i guess i'll leave it for a while and see if things go well within these 14 days. How do you know (visually) if it's ready? Other than checking the gravity, can you usually see if the beer is close to ready for bottling? (Is the foam on...

    No Bubbling

Yes, there is krausen (foamy suds on top), along with sediment in the bottom. This is definitely a rookie question, but i don't know how i guess... sensitive everything is when it comes to taking the top (the bung) off while it's fermenting?? i know that i'd have to in order to check the...

    No Bubbling

Hi, This is my first brew i've ever done. I'm using a Barons Beer Kit (Canadian Golden Ale), and I'm not sure if i should be concerned about something that's going on. I mixed everything and let it sit in the primary fermenter for a little over 3 days until the gravity was about 1.018 (In the...

New To Brewing. Found Recipe, Not Sure If I Got The Right Stuff, Any S

It doesn't really matter to me whether i get a light beer. There were only two recipes in that book (Light beer and Dark beer), so i chose light. But to respond to warra48, the type of beer that i enjoy the most is: Something that's, more golden, somewhat sweet, and one that has more of a...

New To Brewing. Found Recipe, Not Sure If I Got The Right Stuff, Any S

Hi, I am completely new to brewing. I just went and picked up everything i THINK i need. I have an old beer recipe book, and i found a very simple Light Beer recipe, so i was just wondering if anyone would recommend doing this recipe, or if i should do things differently, (different ingredients...
