Sourcing Brew Gear On Hard Rubbish Day Is Theft?

Yeah, but the council is non-profit, unless they are crooked, if they make enough money from selling recyclables your rates will go down.

    Stc 1000 Temp Controller

Very nice! Have you wired the heating to the fridge light? The 15w globes in those old fridges put out a lot of heat.

    Brazilian Craft Beer

Agreed, although learning Brazilian mangled Portugese would be a challenge. I was in spanish speaking countries and brazil for roughly equal times and I could get by pretty well in Chile and Arg with spanish I learnt there. My Portugese was limited to obrigado/a.

    Brazilian Craft Beer

Ah I loved the cachaca, preferred it to the vodka made ones. Just needs a lot of sugar. I never got the meter tubes. When were you there? I think everything doubles in price at carnival time, i was there last year. Stayed at Barra, Rio and Iguazu. Did Chile and Argentina too.

    Brazilian Craft Beer

After paying all sorts of prices from these guys a bunch of brazilian uni students told us never pay anything but 3 cans for $R5 ($A2.50). Unfortunately this was the end of our week in Rio. Can't beat a caprioska on Copacobana either.

    Brazilian Craft Beer

Hola Rafael, When I was in Brazil I really struggled to find a decent beer, all I could really find was Skol, Antarctica and there was one other one I can't remember. Unfortunately my Portugese was limited to 'cervaja'. They tasted like watered down VB. However we drank many many many of these...

    Spam Much?

She's smart enough to get around firewalls etc, but incapable of using any software that can check her Grammar... My yeast could compose better spam.

9 Litre Corny's 'cheapish?' And Mobile Setups

Wow good, timing, I just decided I need 2 more of these, to ease up my beer drinking rotation schedule. I'm in Sydney

    Stc 1000 Temp Controller

Just finished mine off. Not as nice looking as Amber-fluids, but still it will do the trick. I threw a 5A circuit breaker in mine for safe measure. Mainly because I'm sneaking power from strata so that my fridge can go in my storeroom. The breaker should stop the box tripping strata power and...

    Saltwater Ice

I'm betting on loss. Feshwater ice and saltwater ice will both be equal temp if put in the same freezer, just as would anti freeze or a stone. But the melting point will be lower. This means the salt ice will not last as long because if the ambient temp around the ice block gets to -10 or...

My First Recipe, Your Thoughts Appreciated

There's a fair bit of wheat in that recipe, almost enough to classify it as a wheat beer. It should give it a nice wheaty flavour, but not sure if it was what you were after. Also it might be a bit cloudier than your expecting, all grains can be. I would suggest put into a secondary for a week...

Liquid Vs Dry Yeast - Im Converted - Should I Be?

It's very easy to store you're liquid yeasts to save $$ and trips to the brewstore. Everyone has a different method. I like to make a starter a couple days before brewing with 1 L of wort made from dry malt extract. Simply keep about 100 mls of the starter in the fridge in a smaller container...

    Maintaining Constant Temp For Fermentation...

Not meaning to argue a point, but I worked for Sydney Water testing water reticulation quality for about a year and have measured the temperature of many taps. In the height of summer there are plenty of resevoirs and house taps measuring well into the high 20's, in Sydney atleast. And this...

    Maintaining Constant Temp For Fermentation...

The problem with this is you have a lot of surface area exposed to air and the walls of the bath aren't well insulated. If you have a esky you can fit your fermenter this is a much better solution. Even a styrafoam box from your local fish n chips shop will work wonders (may need a plastic...

    Maintaining Constant Temp For Fermentation...

A water bath is far better at transferring cool temperatures to a fermenter. I had fairly good success at maintaining lager temperatures (10-12C) in a hot summer by placing the fermenter in an esky, fill the esky with water, fit styrafoam over the top of the esky with a hole for the...

Gas In Fridge Vs Outside Fridge

Yes it takes energy to cool th co2 bottle down once, but to keep it at fridge temp takes minimal energy. If there was an empty space where the co2 bottle was, that air would leave the fridge every time the door was opened and have to be re chilled. A full fridge being far more efficient then a...
