Lagers Up Top, Ales Down The Bottom

This seems like an obvious topic, but I've searched and searched and can't find anything. So feel free to point me to another thread. I just found a fridge in the bin room, good upgrade for my little bar fridge fermenter. This fits two fermenters perfect in the fridge section. It also fits two...

    Trimming A Willow Cube

The gods of fridges decided to shine its light upon me this morning. It fits 2 fermenters in it to the mm. It also has a freezer. Question is if I'm fermenting at 20C how cold will the freezer be? I guess it depends on outside temperature and a few variables. But it fits 2 party kegs in it and...

    Gas Useage

Hmmm, wonder if I could stick baloons over my airlock to save on buying gas.

    Gas Useage

While I disagree with the premise of this article I found it quite coincedental it popped up yesterday. http://www.smh.com.au/opinion/society-and-...0418-1dlo0.html

    Gas Useage

Fairly neutral effect I'm guessing. CO2 from fermenting has been directly absorbed from the atmosphere through the barley in the beer. I'm not sure how CO2 is collected to fill the bottle but I'm assuming it's either extracted from the atmosphere or taken from natural processes and not derived...

Partial Mash With Too Much Water

Sounds like you're ready to go to all-grain :P! Just add more grain and you're there.

9 Litre Corny's 'cheapish?' And Mobile Setups

Mines been in Saulheim since the 31/3 on 60%. Emailed DHL last night, waiting for a responce. Sounds like they are all waiting for viable transport to Aus.

    Kits V Ingredients

I enjoy my all grain brewing day more then I enjoy drinking it (although I do plenty of both simultaneously). It depends on the type of person you are as to whether AG is worth it. There's plenty of observations you can make about your life to work out if AG is for you. If when cooking you buy...

    Recipe Db Quality Vs Experimental

Dopey me! I've been looking in the recipeDB forum all this time! That's much easier.

    Recipe Db Quality Vs Experimental

The "what are you brewing now" thread is where any experimentation should go. Definately agree only tried and true beers should go in the DB. I also think the database needs to be subdivided into styles to make it easier to compare similar recipes. I never follow recipes exactly but try to look...

Refractometers From E-bay (hong Kong) Any Good?

Thanks Wolfy, guess I should have looked at the instructions.

Refractometers From E-bay (hong Kong) Any Good?

What calculations? I thought you just read the SG from where the blue line is. Mine said it compensated for temp between 10 and 30C

Can't Brew For 6 Plus Weeks...

I like to think of each homebrew I drink as about $2 earned from not having bought the beer in a slab. The drunker I get the richer I get! YAY!

Help Please, Fermentation Is Not Happening

Atleast when you toss it on the garden it wont be going to complete waste :P

Refractometers From E-bay (hong Kong) Any Good?

Wow! I got mine about a week ago, I must have taken 20 readings now, just because I can. With a hydrometer I would have only taken 1 for the starting gravety and been to lazy to cool down wort to take multiple readings during mashing. I took maybe a dozen during mashing and sparging to look at...

    Trimming A Willow Cube

Excellent point, certainly another option. I guess putting water in fermented beer no matter how strong it is will always make me cry a little bit, but I'll just have to get over it. Shouldn't be a problem, I've already smashed out the shelves in the door so there is quite a lot of depth I...

    Trimming A Willow Cube

The problem of a second fridge is space, I'm in a 1BR apartment with a tiny storeroom and SWMBO would not be happy with a second fridge. I could get rid of the bar fridge and replace it with something larger but it is just so achingly close to fitting a second in it. I suppose I have more kegs...

    Trimming A Willow Cube

The fermenting fridge I have is ever slightly too small to fit 2 fermenters in it. It's a 140 L bar fridge. Basically either a bucket fermenter fits on the compressor hump, or a 20L willow cube fits in front of the compressor hump, but not both. A willow is about an inch short of fitting on the...

    What Are You Brewing III

Now I've finally got proper temp control the urge to do a lager has become too much. SWMBO is unfortunately a Pure Blonde drinker and I'm trying to get something similar but not shite. Although she is enjoying the Brit Pale Ale at the moment. This is bubbling along its merry way now. Volume...
