You Know You're A Dedicated Homebrewer When...

When you go to a bottle shop and the first thing you do when looking at an interesting beer is to check the bottom for yeast sludge.

    Warning! (leaving Fresh Wort Out)

Ok to gain some positive discussion from this thread, how can you pause a brew to commence another day? Is there any way, say something came up halfway through a brew. The only place seems to be after grinding and before mashing. I guess you can boil for 5 mins and cube after mashing if you have...

Protecting From Light In Ferment Fridge

Actually they will last for a long time, and they are specificlly designed for being turned on and off a lot, to heat up and maintain a temperature. They are very popular with reptile keepers. I had one I got second hand and it lasted 3 years before I sold it with my python still working fine.

    RecipeDB - Fly Blown Belgian

Trying this now, but differences are, dropped pale malt to 4.5kg, added 0.4kg of wheat and replaced cane sugar with .5kg candi sugar and fermenting with a yeast from a chimay blue. I have no saaz so I will have to see what I can replace it with, I have EKG, Fuggles, Cascade and Styrian Goldings...

    Mashing In An Oven

Does it have a rotisery as well? If you are really crafty you could set up an automatic mash stirer. Just turn it off 30 mins before lautering to let the grain settle into a bed.

Lagers Up Top, Ales Down The Bottom

Unfortunately I have a lager in it at the moment so I can't really test it without stuffing up my lagering. Although it is sitting at -20C with the fridge at 6C but its been running for a little while straight to drop to this temp because the lager was a bit warmer before, it will probably warm...

Lagers Up Top, Ales Down The Bottom

Do constant temps matter so much for lagering? I will complete the primary ferment of a lager in the fridge part under strict ferment temps, but if during lagering the temp varies between 1C and say 7C will this make much difference to the taste? I know that at 7C the beer will not be as smooth...
