I didn't keep good notes. It was supposed to be the ESB recipe from the book 'brewing classic styles'. The bag of grain weighed more than what I ordered so maybe I got given something a bit wacky or the percentages were thrown out of wack? The hop schedule was stupid because I wanted...
I swear I searched first. Went through 5 pages of results and couldn't find what I'm looking for.
It's getting cold and I'm not really prepared to go into the heat belt thing (I can't afford/don't have a power source in my fermentation space {I don't ferment in a fridge})
I have tasted some...
Im removing my ESB because it is really truly discusting. Even my wife who is very generous with her comments agrees that this one is destined for the sink.
I'll bring along a bottle if anyone wants to take a guess at what went wrong but I'm pretty sure it's just an awful grain bill with...
Not sure if this is all k marts but the brunswick one (Barkley square) has cheap carb drops, crown seals, pet bottles, lids and cans of extract plus the thing at the bottom, I guess, is a collection of all of the above.
I haven't got any of my hop beers cold mostly because it's a pretty crap beer but also I thought we were waiting till next month. I can make it happen if required though. It's hardly carbonated but that's to style anyway
It's very possible to keep costs down but it's also very easy to spend lots. At the moment I'm pumping out a carton a fortnight for $16 but lots of room for improvement if I had money and space to get better equipment!
The idea of whirlpool hops is just to get some extraction of the oils without boiling away any flavour or aroma. You put them in when the boil has stopped and they sits there for about as long as it takes you to get your shite together for the transfer.
Some people like to get the wort down to...
I would think you'd want to throw in some late nelson if you wish to taste or smell that particular hop. When you boil hops for 60 minutes you lose all of the desirable aroma and flavour but get all of that nice bitterness instead.
Personally id not boil galaxy for 15 minutes as I understand it...
did some testing to see what I can do with late hopping my 'ESB'. Hop tea style.
Horizon on its own was a bit too grassy like and select on its own was a bit like spicy hop cordial. A lower quantity of both made a pretty awesome combo.
It's more like an English pale ale than ESB. Not enough...
I brewed yesterday, don't have a fridge for cc so it'll be ready (also means that I can't control ferment temp but it's in a garage that is consistently 21 degrees)
I made an esb. I know that's a malt forward beer but I hope to make some late hopping noticeable.
