First Small Batch Ag. Confused About Sanitation Recommendations.

I use phosphoric acid. The stuff i've been buying comes 82% strength and needs to be diluted. From memory 4ml per L of water does the trick. It is significantly cheaper than starsan, only comes to about $9 for 250 ml which is enough to make 60L odd.

    Free Beer And Mates

I usually get told, "yeah that tastes alright". The real test is whether they have another one... but that might be the free beer thing taking effect.

This was one oof the issues I wanted to address

How Big Is You Mash Tun? (research For Uni Assignment)

Cheers for that. Hopefully i can find some super eco friendly plant based polymer to satisfy my lecturer I probably wont have to. All I really need to know is the tallest vessel commonly used (Keggles) and the height of the more commonly used BIAB vessels. This is all to determine the approx...

How Big Is You Mash Tun? (research For Uni Assignment)

Yeah thats what I was thinking as well (see post #11)... So i guess i'll keep the 51% of buisness rights . Might be possible to injection mould it, but i suspect the spent grain will be too large for the die head. Compression dough moulding might be the go. I'll have to check out the prices...

How Big Is You Mash Tun? (research For Uni Assignment)

Yeah, i'm doing industrial design. I'll swap you some of my degree for a bit of your Arc degree - It would look good along side my my guitar building qualification. Heres the brief in short: Design a hand held, manual, eco firendly kitchen utensil for food preperation. And this is the problem...

Capital Idea, how do i go about doing that?

How Big Is You Mash Tun? (research For Uni Assignment)

Cheers, 1. I agree. It will need to be good quality. I havent yet decided whether to use a digital thermometer with a probe mounted inside a thin section of the mash paddle, or a spirit thermometer which slots into the paddle and is partially exposed but protected by the structure of the mash...

How Big Is You Mash Tun? (research For Uni Assignment)

I'd like to have the thermometer built in so that you can monitor the temp as you are stiring the grain into the strike water. I brew on the stove in small batches, so theres not a lot of thermal mass to retain the heat over a 60-90 minute mash. This means that i have to add heat. Obvioulsy...

Yeah, i expect there will be three main groups: Modified Kegs, 20-40L stock pots, and esky's

What size mash tun do you guys use? I'd like to know height and diameter to help me design a mash paddle (with built in thermometer ;) ) for a Uni assignment. Cheers.

Brewing Equipment Uni Assignment - Help!

Yeah the cooling wand thing is an interesting idea. The only problem is figuring out what to do with the heat generated by the unit. Cooling the esky with a hand crack is a pretty good idea, because you could also drive a fan placed over a heat sink. That would eliminate the problem of keeping...

Brewing Equipment Uni Assignment - Help!

Yeah i thought of the egg beater mash paddle, but i'm ussually pouring in grain with one hand and stiring with the other, which means theres i cant have two hands on the egg beater. I'm also trying to avaiod anything that will get caught up in a BIAB... Obviously i'll have to do a fair amount of...

Brewing Equipment Uni Assignment - Help!

There are some really good ideas coming out of this. Not all fit the brief, but those ones can be side projects. yeah i've been thinking about the mash paddle for a while, I wanted to make it out of a food grade plastic/silicone so that it wouldnt scratch the inside of an esky/BIAB bag. I also...

Brewing Equipment Uni Assignment - Help!

Thats a properly good idea. it would also be handy if it could tell you the SG (we'd need to get a boffin to figure out how). It could transmitt to Iphone which could do the SG temp conversion on the fly. I think it would be useful in the ferment as well.

Brewing Equipment Uni Assignment - Help!

Oh and i actually have to be able to biuld the thing, or at least a 1:1 model. The mill sounds pretty interesting, and i dont have one currently. were you thinking of the sort that has a round stone on a flat surface, and the grain is poured in through a hole in the centre?

Brewing Equipment Uni Assignment - Help!

Yeah i was thinking about an Ipad/Iphone stand, as i'm aware that a lot of people use them for brewing software or following recipes (also for cooking not just beer ha ha) The imersion heater is an interesting idea, and probably not too hard to do. Probably doesnt fit the brief as it would need...

Brewing Equipment Uni Assignment - Help!

I'm studying industrial design, and for one of my assignments I have been asked to design a hand held, manually powered product for the kitchen. As a homebrewer i'm taking this opportunity to design something for brewing. so i'm looking for input. What can you think of that would be useful or...
