    Scientists Find 'hangover Gene'

No use, Doc. The gene automatically 're-mutates' once you hit your mid-30's. I never used to suffer hangovers until then, so it must be so.

    Best English Pint In Adelaide?

Thanks jayse. I was sort of expecting Grumpy's Biggles (or Triple A Amber) to feature fairly early. I was hoping for something closer to the city. Not a major fan of DD however. Oh well. Hiho, Hiho, it's up the hill I go.

    Best English Pint In Adelaide?

I've been craving a really decent pint of English bitter for a while and I'm at a loss as to where to find it. In desperation I dropped into the Elephant off Rundle St, but was unsurprisingly disappointed. Nothing good there IMHO. Where in Adelaide do you think pulls the best genuine English...

What Is So Good About "floor" Malted

You may not want to suggest that to the folks doing the BJCP exam tomorrow. I think they'll be figuring that will be part of the job description. Agreed. I was gutted when my last lot of MO wasn't Fawcett's. Then again, I probably can't taste the difference. :D

    Mini Keg System

There was a thread about this a few weeks back... Brewtique Thoughts were that it probably wasn't perfectly suited to homebrewing... yet.

    More % Please

I agree with pretty much everything written here. If you want a cheap high alcohol brew you'd be better off just getting 2 cans of a home brand kit and maybe throwing a little dextrose at it to bump it up further. Or you could get about 5kg of grain... I vote with the "make it tasty" crowd.

    Tour De France

It's a perfect opportunity to drink home brew until the wee hours... six days a week... I love it!!! :chug:

    Today Tonight Gets It Wrong?

 Shortest threads in history... Today Tonight Gets It Right How much were Today Tonight paid to promote VB? I watch too much Media Watch to ever take these programs seriously anymore.

    The Wheatsheaf

I've been meaning to try the LCPA on tap for a while and finally managed to drop in to the Wheatsheaf yesterday. On tap they also had the LC Pilsener, James Squires Porter and IPA (much better on tap than out of the bottle IMHO) and Mountain Goat IPA (BONUS!!!) Outstanding array of bottled beers...

    Bulk Buys

I wasn't involved but I admired the effort from afar. Hopefully I get involved next time around. :super: BIG HAND FELLAS

    "la Wambrechies" French Beer

Is this the one? La Wambrechies Belgian. From the description it has jenever added. Unfortunately, it doesn't tell us which one, and there are well over 150 different types of jenever...

    Stuck Ferment

Full strength, full carb, full flavour only for me at the moment T.D - at least for as long as the medical tests keep coming back with favourable results. :P "... something that I'm personally unlikely to ever use." As ever, to each their own. Cheers. :chug:

    Stuck Ferment

Amylo is something of a final desperate step. It's used in a lot of kit lagers to rip through some of the "body" sugars, as explained by G.L. Using it just to restart a stuck ferment risks changing the flavour profile, albeit slightly, and I believe can actually leave the unfermented sugars from...

    Wyeast Smack Pak.

Mine normally take 12-24 hours when kept warm and shaken regularly. Ditto on both Borret's and Ross's words of wisdom. The larger starter make take a little longer, and sealing the top will indicate signs sooner, and most of all, patience grasshopper. You seem to have done everything right so...

    Paddy's Brewery Challenge

I'm sure it'll be allright Mrs. Doc. I think you've just demonstrated the allround class of the Doc household. Big Congrats to Richard on his success. Without having had the pleasure of tasting, I'd hazard a guess that it was a class field.

    Brewing Network Poll

I'm one of those slack ones who hasn't listened but keeps meaning to. Can you post the site link again to help out we lazy ones?

    Wyeast Smack Pak.

I've only ever used pretty fresh yeast, probably never more than about 3 months past the batch date. A warm place and plenty of shakes and they've never taken more than 12 hours to be fully puffed.

What Proportion Of Beer Consumption Is Homebrewed?

I generally manage at least one pub session per week, which means at least 10 beers outside of the home/craft brew definition - unless you call Coopers a craft brewer :excl: - and I must be some sort of woose, because I'm still inside the 100 beers a week... so 60-90% for me.

    Golden Syrup

I was thinking the same thing, Sean. I used 500g of CSR Golden Syrup in an extract only brew of 3.2kg fermentables. I agree that the Golden Syrup taste is definitely evident, but not overpowering. 330g in a 9kg grain bill shouldn't upset things too much, especially in that style. If it's...

    Bulk Hops Purchase

I store my hops in a plastic bag, in a tuppaware container, in the freezer. They are still fine after 12 months, though not many make it that far.
