    Biab Bag Material

It is quite obvious that a lot of brewers do not frequent haberdashery/fabric shops in search for fabrics. It is true that some of the cheap shower curtains purchased at stores such as Bi-Lo, Aldi etc are made of waterproof plastic. A more elaborate shower curtain is made using silk. Yes they...

    Biab Bag Material

$45 sounds a bit pricey for a bag. Better off going to a department store and buying a cheap shower curtain, line the inside of your boiler and cut off what you don't need. No wonder people buy on-line from China. Same products for up to 60% less....including postage.

    Rain Water

Does the rainwater have to be boiled as for making tea, or can it be used straight from the tank? w

    Sparging?

I read an article in John Palmer's site about sparging. He suggested to put a lid/plate over the grainbed prior to sparging and pouring the water onto the lid/plate keeping the liquid about 1" above the lid so as not to stir up the grains. I also read somewhere here to add the required sparge...

    Small Fermenting Vessle

Horses for courses, I guess. Or is it courses for horses. I got one of those big spoons too. Mine is made from wood (Shit Stirrers Trophy). Just fits a 16 litre stockpot :D w

Hey, You got a nice ice box there. Ever thought about using it as a mash tun instead of a bag in a stockpot? w

    Aeration

What would be a good way to aerate a boiled/chilled wort prior to pitching the yeast? If I was to open the tap on my boiler and let the wort run into the fermenter, about 60 cm below, causing a lot of splashing and bubbles, will this be OK? I have thought about using a sanitized beer hose...

    How To Keep Hops Fresh

What would be a good way to store any unused hops? I bought a few varieties in those vacuum sealed bags (90gr) and intend using some of each during the boil and dry hopping. A vacuum sealer is on my shopping list. Cheers w

    Trub Removal & Racking Experiment

Is racking to a secondary fermenter really necessary? Are there any benefits? Do the big breweries do it? w

    Dry Coopers Ale Yeast

Would using too strong a sanitizer mix have any effect on the yeast if not completely drained out / air dried? Just a thought. w

    Water Or Grain First?

Hi scotty, It is true that this topic has been discussed before and it is a matter of personal preferrence. I look at it this way. The mash tun is around room temperature to start with. Adding strike water to the grain already in the mash tun, will quickly lose heat unless the mash tun (and...
