    Larger starters for lager

Cheers for the info lads, I have blind faith in the 1.5L starter I have, as it smells & tastes fine, I'll step it up to a 15L kit brew, then run with that.

    Larger starters for lager

I revived some bohemian lager yeast I've had in the fridge since January, made a small 1.5L starter from some frozen wort I had. Took 36h to get going but fermented ferociously, looks, tastes & smells really heathy. I've only got a 5L flask & I'm planning a 60L lager to be fermented @ 10c...

    Beers of NYC & Vegas

Went to Virgil BBQ near time square tonight, sporting all the BBQ staples brisket, pulled pork, ribs, Mac n cheese etc, awesome food & beer prices, left fully blocked for $55 inc tip, cheapest night out yet! Decent beer list, I had the grapefruit IPA, was tasty, could taste the grapefruit...

    Beers of NYC & Vegas

Here's a few snaps of the Brooklyn Brewery from my tour, they only brew 35% of their beer here, mainly their seasonal's & staff inspired brews, they let every employee design their own beer every quarter, just for cellar & bar sales. They rent brewery space up the road from a mega to produce the...

    Beers of NYC & Vegas

If your referring to Brooklyn lager with the green label, the one mainly seen in Aust. Story goes that it's a Vienna style lager, recipe was found in notes written by one of Brooklyn breweries founders grandad, notes were found when his grandad passed, his grandad was a 4th gen brewer, they used...

    Beers of NYC & Vegas

Hi All, In vacation in New York City at present, finding the selection of craft beers outstanding, almost every different pub, bar or eatery I go to has a different selection of craft beers from American brewers/breweries that I've never heard of. All really tasty! Hardly see corona, coors &...

    US-05 Problems

Might be worth trying a liquid yeast, I always get a cleaner finish using wyeast 1056 with a starter over US-05, I pitched dry (as the packet instructs) but I don't pay attention to their suggested pitch rate, I go with 1g per/l. I know many say they are identical, but I disagree, to my taste...

    Harsh hop bitterness

Been down this road. My bet would be on boil ph. You could try bumping your hop utilisation in your brew software up 10% as well, I run my hop utilisation in beer smith 2 @ 120%.

1BBL (120L) HERMS - anyone around this size

I'm Running a 140L HLT w/herms coil, 80L tun, 120L kettle, good for 100L batches. with the latent heat in my sparge water sitting @ 76c plus 6000w worth of Elements I can easily raise a 50-70l mash 2deg c in less than 10 mins, smaller systems would benefit from a hex imo. My old 40L 2500w setup...

    Joe white pale malt

my local micro exclusively uses Jw malts and makes great beer. Don't get me wrong Jw isn't my preferred base, but I'm finding this unknown batch of Jw pretty decent! mash Efficiently pretty consistent. ~90%
