    I'm Going To Belgium!

Chimay brewery is not open to the public anymore, although they do have the monastery and a VERY good restaurant. They sell a special beer the monks make for themselves at the restaurant, and chimay cheese as well. It's all good stuff, but probably not worth the long drive, considering how much...

    Android Apps

I've got an android and was interested in getting an app or two to look at Aussie beer. I've found beercloud which looks at European beers, but not much as far as the Aussie stuff (which is primarily what I get to drink) is concerned. I'm not talking about iphone, more stuff for that, including...

    Whatareyou Drinking For Christmas

I'll mainly stick to Schofferhofer Kristallweizen Weissbier, as it's both good value at Uncle Dan's ($22 for 4 x 500ml bottles), and very easy summer drinking. I also picked up a Burleigh Brewing Co. Hef, another wheatbeer, and a MB Dogbolter Dark Larger. Looking forward to trying them both too...

    Can't Find The #%#$% Kit!

Thanks all, plenty to think about. I'm going to pass on the wheat beer kit, and try using the dark grain I bought from the shop. Unfortunately, it doesn't say which type it is, only "grain - dark" Maybe a bit of extra light malt would help too? As far as hops are concerned, I'm going with...

    Can't Find The #%#$% Kit!

You need to try a chimay, even if it's only once. The have a Dubble, a Rouge and a Bleu, which get progressively darker. They're a trappist beer, and I actually went to the monastery / brewery a couple of years back. The monks also make cheese, which they don't sell commercially, but went...

    Can't Find The #%#$% Kit!

Bugger - I'd probably prefer to get one that wasn't imported (and probably cheaper). I'm going to try it with a wheat beer kit this time anyway and see how it goes. I'll let you know.

    Can't Find The #%#$% Kit!

I've got a few bottles of my last brew left over, where I used a whitelabs Belgian ale yeast WLP 550. I'm going to try and make a yeast starter from this. I agree with you, the yeast makes a big difference with this kind of beer.

    Can't Find The #%#$% Kit!

Hi all, I've been using a Brewcraft imported 1.8kg Belgian Ale to make a Chimay- like recipe. Unfortunately, the local shop doesn't have the kit, so I'm wondering if I could use grain / malt and get away without the kit? The bloke at the shop recommended a wheat kit, would this work? Cheers.

    Extra Hops?

Thanks guys, I haven't used this particular Morgan's kit, but I'm quite keen on the Hallertau hops, so I might give them a go to add a bit more of a spicy flavour. Will let you know how it goes.

    Extra Hops?

I've just picked up a Morgan's Golden Saaz Pilsner, and I'm keen to add some finishing hops to give it a bit extra flavour and aroma. O know it's already got saaz in it, I was thinking Hersbrucker or Hallertau. Does anyone have any thoughts on what would be best?
