I like brewing my own beer mainly because down here, in France, the only beer available is tasteless "lager".
I brew from kits. All grain has nothing to offer me except more money needed for equipment, more time spent steeping and boiling and making the whole neighbourhood smell like I'm brewing on an industrial scale.
I prefer to leave the extraction of fermentable sugars and the choice of hops to the experts.
My online homebrew store can sell me over 200 different beer kits, why should I concoct my own recipe?
And before you mention the word "freshness", how old are the grains you buy in the homebrew shop???
Tinned kits are for me.
