Because the can didnt mention what hops were in it and rather than mash together cascade and something unfamiliar I thought i'd just try to boil it out. The hops probably spend 20-30 mins in temps from 80 degrees down to 28 degrees. maybe not such a good idea?

I'll jump in here with something a tad off topic. Once you have gathered the dregs from the bottom of the fermentor and cleaned the junk off the top (providing, hopefully, re-usable yeast) how do you know how much to put in your future batches?

The cavity/burring you made with the grinder shouldn't matter as long as you clean it properly between batches. I wouldn't recommend trying to fill it in with anything: - Super glue is toxic and porous - The Glue in fiberglass is toxic and porous - any guesses about silicone? :P Aquarium...
