Chan 7 Better Homes And Gardens - Home Brewing

This is actually what i do for a living. By the looks of things, we have done everything in our power needed to get there. External links would help, but its all in the power of the big G

    Experimental Brew

Thanks guys, I was hoping to remove the flavour/aroma of the kit hops, i definitely didn't want to kill the bitterness. I seem to have assumed correctly when i started boiling the kit away, which is good :) Yeah i was after a hint of flavour and aroma from the cascade. I have read/heard alot...

    Experimental Brew

Because the can didnt mention what hops were in it and rather than mash together cascade and something unfamiliar I thought i'd just try to boil it out. The hops probably spend 20-30 mins in temps from 80 degrees down to 28 degrees. maybe not such a good idea?

    Experimental Brew

Im onto my 3rd K&K now and have decided to play around with this one. It was the leftovers (plus a small $10 trip to the LHBS) from the brewing kit. 1x 1.7kg can of ESB 'larger' 250g dextrose 250g maltodextrin 500g light malt 12g cascade hops I boiled it for 40 mins (its a 'hopped' can so i...

Brewing Myths Caused By Chinese Whispers

Im a new brewer (3rd batch is going down today YAY!) Im a stubborn guy here's where it gets messy :P I don't have a fridge controller or decent temp control setup, I'm going on the "she'll be right" method. I DO wrap my brew in a wet towel and pour icy water over it but it has got pretty hot...

    My 2nd Batch Questions.

Sounds to me like you are trying to make beer with sugar and yeast. usually you get a can of goo (1.7kg or 3kg extract) and a combination of powders (dextrose and malt or something). don't worry about it too much, learn from the mistakes. I recommend going as SIMPLE as possible for the first...

    Hop Bag For Dry Hop

I tried boiling stockings to get rid of the dye, i boiled with water first and after 4 or 5 boils it got relatively clean. then i chucked some pink solution in with it and i was back to square 1. so i didn't use it. what about fish nets, the type for aquariums. the holes are a little large but...

Conflicting Advice On Re-using Yeast Cake

Yeasties havent been collected yet. im thinking in advance :) I was just thinking of a sterile jar in the bottom of the fermentor and scrape the crap out ?

    Label Making

I'm currently storing 3 bottles of every batch i make for a mOktoberfest, because they dont come in contact with water i just use an avery label (1.5cm tall, 3cm wide) and write the vitals (alc %, batch number, type and any additives) onto the label with a biro. None have come off yet but i...

Conflicting Advice On Re-using Yeast Cake

Ahh nice thank you. It will probably be in the fridge for a little while ~ 1 month I'll be trying to harvest the WB-06 for a friend, fingers crossed it all goes well.

Conflicting Advice On Re-using Yeast Cake

I'll jump in here with something a tad off topic. Once you have gathered the dregs from the bottom of the fermentor and cleaned the junk off the top (providing, hopefully, re-usable yeast) how do you know how much to put in your future batches?

How Do I Fix A Fermenter?

The cavity/burring you made with the grinder shouldn't matter as long as you clean it properly between batches. I wouldn't recommend trying to fill it in with anything: - Super glue is toxic and porous - The Glue in fiberglass is toxic and porous - any guesses about silicone? :P Aquarium...
