Hi

Does anyone know the diameter of the perforations in the Beer Belly false bottom?

The old man is going to build one for me. He has a load of 1.8mm aperture SS mesh. Looks suitable, but would be interested in knowing what the BB one is.

Cheers
Paul

Not sure of the exact size, but from looking at mine 1.8mm sounds the goods.

Keep in mind the false bottom is mainly there to hold back the grain bed which does the filtering process (especially in a fly sparge situation). You will probably recirculate the first runnings with any small pieces of grain, and collect the grain free wort for the kettle.

In saying that, we use a false bottom made of stainless steel mesh from a security door, and it is very fine mesh too, 1.8mm should be fine.

I managed to forget to place it into the esky last brew, and still got a good fly sparge after recirculating the first runnings.

thanks for the replies. I thought 1.8mm would be OK.

building a HERMS and have read the trusty SS braid probably wont allow enough flow.
