Just wondering what people use to calculate their mash volumes.
Last night I came up with some formulae using J. Palmer's How to Brew to see how much water I could add to my mash tun and hence a maximum water:grain ratio that could be used for a certain amount of grain.
Vm = Vt - 0.6466 * Gb
where
Vm is total water used for mash (L)
Vt is volume of mash tun (L)
Gb is weight of grain (kg)
Or alternatively
Vt = Gb (1.6466 + (Rb - 1))
where
Vt is total volume of mash (L)
Gb is weight of grain (kg)
Rb is mash water to grain ratio (L/kg)
Will actually test these out this weekend to see how acurate they are.
Does anyone do anything similar?
