Headed down that way in a few weeks and noticed this joint. Anybody here familiar with it? Good place for a feed and drink with the family?

I went there a few years ago.

The food was great (I had the pork knuckle)

The beer was mostly good, though not amazing - more due to style choices than quality.

They didn't have everything available when I went (I really wanted to try the Kolsch and Alt on tap, but they were both out at the time. The other styles they have don't really excite me, but everything available on tap was of good quality).

I grabbed a take-away 5L mini kegs of their Weizen (was decent enough) and also an Oktoberfest beer - reduced to clear - which, sadly, was quite obviously not at its peak (suspected that it was infected. I ended up tipping 4.9L of it down the drain. I bought that mini keg in February, so it would've been 5 months past when it was brewed for. As a lager I wouldn't expect it to deteriorate so badly, unless it hadn't been stored properly).

Anyway, overall was worth a visit but was disappointed not to be able to try the styles I wanted.

The sampler looks the part if nothing else.

It's a good brewery in a bad location of Fyshwick, Canberra's home of light industrial, Harvey Norman's, and porn.

Beers are good, food is OK but pricey. They had an outlet at the Uni Bar in the city but someone just told me that has closed, so dunno.

A better craft brewed is Bent Spoke in Brandon, excellent beers and food. Very busy in evenings.

Wot, no over hopped cloudy orange coloured IPA or one of the hundreds of "compulsory" APAs ?????? Oh the humanity.

Good traditional German beer and food. The Pork Knuckles or mixed platter is to die for. Definately family friendly. A bit out of the way but at least you don't need to re-mortgage your house for a few beers and a feed as you would at the other establishments in the city.

It is in a bit of a random location, not to far out of the way though. The only beer i went back in for was the schankbier. Everything was well made, just wasn't anything to get excited about.

Go to bentspoke and stare in awe at the amount of money that was spend in that place. Plus their opening another offsite brewery out of the city so we will probably start seeing their beers outside of canberra.
