Just wondering if all Lager yeast is bottom fermenting ? or is only liquid Lager yeast bottom fermenting?

Any help would be great.

short answer yes all lager yeast is bottom fermenting.

thousands of years ago these strains were top fermenting but after spending there days cold conditioning in german caves they mutated to become what they are today.

Thanks Jayse,
Little worried about Lager yeast now!
What was in those German caves thousands of years ago that made the yeast mutate?

Swiller :p

basiclly all the yeast we use is the same thing but they have all been collected by different people over the last 5000-10000 years.then have been cultured in different climates.and on different water supply and all different ingredients etc.all these things caused the yeast to mutate into what they are now.
with the cave thing that was because the beer spent a very long time very cold.the caves were the coldest place for itand because they could only brew at certain times of the year.they filled the caves with beer.come october if there was any beer left it had to be drunk to make room for the next season.hense octoberfest.
thats my understand anyway.

Jayse,
Only joking about cave mutating thing.
But the Oktober fest info very interesting.

Thanks
