There is a really good page on the maltose falcons website, though I don't know whether they go into a lot of detail on how to make slants.
Do you have access to sterile working equipment (laminar flow cabiner, autoclave) or will you be doing them in your kitchen?
regarding Yeast Slants I don't know a great deal about them either.
I know that the brew club I am a member of is having a club meet this Wednesay night 28th nov and there is a talk being given about Yeast including Slants.
